Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

Lets Go DU has posted a preview for the 2018=19 season. Now before you get a big smile on your face, be sure to read Puck Swami's comment on the article. Unfortunately I am more in with the Puck Swami point of view. Our very, very young team will face some rough patches of ice in the early part of the season. Hopefully they can make up lost ground in the second half. And will get home ice for the NCHC playoffs. Just as in Monty's first year, we may have to win the NCHC tournament to make the NCAAs.

What do you think of the Florida Panthers sending down Henrik Borgstrom? -- @sun_puck

I was initially surprised the Panthers sent Borgstrom to Springfield of the American Hockey League. Borgstrom appeared ready to take the No. 3 center job behind Aleksander Barkov and Vincent Trocheck, but Panthers coach Bob Boughner said Borgstrom admitted he was having a tough time at the end of the preseason schedule against bigger opponents
From Dan Rosen at NHL.com

I was surprised too, but hopefully it won't be for long.

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

Here's one thing I think I know:

In 2016-17 Championship season both Matt Marcinew and Evan Ritt were in the Top 10 in face off won by percentage. Matt was 3rd in the nation. And Evan's face off acumen, nationally #10, undoubtedly resulted in a big increase in his ice time.

In 2017-2018 the face offs won suffered a big drop. Now Tyson McLellan's win Percentage was right at 60%, but due to injury he played in only 15 games. Jaakko Heikkinen had the next highest percentage which placed him at #52 nationally. The Big 3--Terry, Gambrell, and Borgstrom--all fell behind Heikkinen

In the 2018-19 season winning face offs will give the Pios more puck possession and chances to score. And without points from the recently departed Big 3, Pios will need more scoring chances and then to take advantage of them. McLellan should be in the Top 10 nationally if he continues at last year's pace. If Heikkinen and/or someone else can build on that skill, it certainly would help this very young team.

FWIW: Paul Stastny and Tyler Bozak, both with face off success in the NHL, spend time in the summer at DU. Hopefully they passed on some winning tips to the current team.

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

DU 6 Alberta 4

There are a lot of new faces/numbers on the ice. Some good plays, some sloppy play, too many penalties, lots of lines, some freshmen stood out--
Pettersen, Guttman, Demin, Stapely--not a freshman Les Lancaster, 5 regulars sat the 3rd period, quoting Puck Swami,"surprisingly adequate goaltending", and yes David Carle still looks young.

Next week Air Force

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

Dylan Gambrell recalled by San Jose. That makes 8 Pios in the NHL
