Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

Luko has a 1 under GP in the Griffins stats, but no other stats. I'm guessing that means he dressed for a game, but never stepped onto the ice.

"Former University of Denver forward Jarid Lukosevicius made his pro debut for the Griffins…" From Griffins website Game 4, 4/24

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

Yeah, they signed a Swedish guy named Magnus Chrona a couple months ago, seems like perhaps Filip and DC had conversations about jumping pretty early.

Well dang. Could there be a more apropos name for a DU hockey player than Magnus?

I saw that, but wasn't sure whether it meant he got any play time, or just dressed and sat on the bench.

Why not Chris Trouba D Johnstown Tomahawks (NAHL)? He just made the NAHL Robby Cup All-Tournament team, plus his older bro's kinda famous. Good luck!

The three players that Viz cited are already committed to DU for next season. They also have a couple of 20-21 D's in Ole Julian Holm and Rubin Rafkin, not sure if either could come early but, other than Comrie, they're only losing Les Lancaster from the back end since Mitchell said he's returning. Should be good competition for the starting 6 next season!

Right, I realized those cited were current commits immediately after I posted, so my apologies for weighing in. Had I thought about it further, I'd have realized the stiff competition was likely a factor in Comrie's departure.

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

Comrie's departure surprises me - he seemed to have a clear spot on the inside track to take Lancaster's job and play in the top-six regularly. DU still has nine defensemen total, so, I doubt they'd look to add someone. All of the future committed defensemen for Denver (by birthdate, at least) appear too young to accelerate. Even if one of them did rush to campus, you'd probably be risking another situation like Comrie's or Budy's (as talented as they were) where a top-player is rushed, not quite ready, and ends up leaving after not getting the expected/desired immediate PT.

The top-five is rock-solid, so I'd guess the remaining four just compete for the final spot in the line-up (DU looks likely to use its extra slot for its deep F group) - though its also possible Fear could lose some GP. Orgel has already been on campus for two seasons, Krenzen is already 21 with a long junior career, Luedtke is skilled but fresh out of HS and Lee is talented, just 19 and has played two years in the USHL. It will be an interesting battle. Luedtke and Lee are likely the favorites (although Luedtke is also listed as a forward in a few places)...

Dylan Gambrell is in for San Jose tonight in Conference Final. Tyler Bozak in his regular spot for St. Louis. Chris Butler is one of the black knights for St. Louis.
Blues ahead 2-0 end of 1st.

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

Kyle Mayhew, rising sophomore D-man, actually played more games as a forward last year--12 of 17 possibly more as he was the extra skater for at least one game in 2018-2019. Could he be moved to forward for next year?

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

Stanley Cup begins tonight.
Danton Heinen for the Bruins. Tyler Bozak on the ice and Bruce Affleck in the front office for the Blues.
At least one more Pioneer's name will be added to the Cup this year.

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

Looks like DU has scored blue chipper! His name is Mathew Savoie. He is being compared to Johnny Gaudreau!, I don't have any more info than that. Hopefully we will find out more soon!

Re: ALL THINGS DENVER XLI--Will Boone go to St.Paul

And his older brother Carter has signed with the Winnipeg Ice as well. Carter played in the AJHL last year and was the league's Rookie of the Year and was 5th in the league in scoring. That sounds like a tough loss for DU.

Matthew isn't a surprise at all -- the commitment to DU was more of a middle finger to the WHL for not declaring him "exceptional". Carter backing out is a bit of a surprise, but good for him. If that's the direction he wants to go, we wish him nothing but the best.

DU has a couple of pretty good classes coming in, they should be in the hunt again this season.

Besides Bobby Brink, are any other Pios likely to get drafted next weekend?
