Thanks for the countdown Viz, that was awesome!! Game day finally!! Go DU!!

It's Game Day !

7,6,5,4 pm (e, c, m, p)

2-0 after one, shots are 20-8 DU. It's crazy to say this in a sport like college hockey (especially with a one-game scenario post-season), but how does this team NOT repeat...?

It wouldn't be difficult to argue they have the three best forwards in the country. Terry, Gambrell and Borgstrom look like men amongst boys. Lukosevicious would play on just about anyone's first line. I think Finley has a real breakout season - he has a lot of Tyler Kelleher in him. And you've added elite recruits in Olischefski and Heikkinen...

I'm not sure there's a team in the country that returns a better group of four defenseman. Or a team with two D recruits better than Mitchell and Mendel.

Same story in goal with arguably the best returning netminder and the best incoming recruit.

Woe be the team who takes penalties against this first PP unit (Terry, Borgstrom, Gambrell, Lukosevicious, Mitchell)...

The exhibition isnt even half over - Terry just walked the goal line in front of me (3-0) - but I'm anointing you guys. Enjoy...

There are some questions:

How do the youngsters assimilate? Mendel looked a little rough, especially once the top two lines sat. Mitchell looks like the real deal. The young forwards looked pretty good, time will tell.

Do the olympics steal our top-3 forwards for most of the second half, as has been rumored?

Other than BU/BC, the noncon schedule is pretty weak, hopefully the NCHC schedule prepares them for the postseason.

Hammond didn’t dress tonight, how is his injury healing?

I agree on Finley, his speed is incredible...if he continues on a line with Borg, they’re gonna put up points.

I’m not ready to anoint them, but it sure is exciting to be a Pio!

Terry and Jordan Greenway from BU were the only 2 male hockey players at the Media kickoff held this last week in Park City. Makes me think they are both locks for the Olympic team. They played together at the WJC and before in Ann Arbor. The US team meets Feb. 10 in South Korea and prelims start Feb. 14. Gold medal game Feb. 25. DU has a bye Feb. 13-14 weekend. Possible to miss only 2 weekends Feb 20-21 and 27-28.
Chris Dilks at SBN opined on the possible NCAA selections and yes, Terry and Gambrell were in his top 10.

Borgstrom didn't have a good WJC, but with his performance at DU and selection as an All American he has to be a top candidate.

Notre Dame should be a good test. Air Force always plays us hard and they made the tournament last year.

Mike Chambers reported Hammond scheduled to be back at start of NCHC season, Nov. 3-4 against Western Michigan.

Interesting that Monty started McLellan's line, not the big guns. Thought Davies looked good. Fear 6'5", Mendel 6'4", or Mostrom 6'3" will add some size in Hammond's absence. Two of them will be playing.
