All-Americans Watch 2013

Re: All-Americans Watch 2013

There are at lease three Castleton players should be considered

Alright I'll take the bait... Who...? I assume Harris/Alonzo/Bell??? Harris had a good (not great) year as he is 31st in points... As for the other 2 they are tied for 81st in the country in points as of now... That doesn't make you part of the 1% of college hockey players that have the honor of being All-Americans...

I would at lease think Harris would be considered he holds the top points in the ECAC East . what makes Frank Salituro different from the Harris kid they both have 31 over all. Just trying to understand how they choose

Oh for sure, I wasn't trying to make an argument for total points being the set criteria for AA otherwise the Caveney kid from Fitchburg is your POY. Obviously there is a lot more that goes into the selections. Harris would be the only one with any shot at it, I guess I was just curious how he would defend Alonzo or Bell for consideration? Alonzo has 2 goals this year...

Re: All-Americans Watch 2013

Here's my last stab at the D-III East squad's before the banquet. Anyone else want to take a shot?

1st Team East:

F. Paul Rodrigues, Oswego
F. Keith Buehler, Wesleyan
F. Colin Mulvey, Norwich
D. Tim McGarry, Bowdoin
D. Rob Florentino, UMass-Boston
G. Nick Broadwater, Hobart

2nd Team East:

F. Luke Moodie, Oswego
F. Louie Educate, Utica
F. Travis Janke, Norwich
D. Brad Richard, Hobart
D. Shaun Jameson, Wentworth
G. Mathieu Cadieux, Plattsburgh

3rd Team East:

F. Joe Caveney, Fitchburg State
F. Josh Harris, Castleton
F. Daniel Weineger, Bowdoin
D. Scott Farrell, Neumann
D. Jesse McConney, Oswego
G. Zeke Testa, Babson

I feel like I've got the forwards pretty good. I will say I think Louie Educate might be able to replace Keith Beuhler on the first team. Defense can be a crapshoot.

Testa I think played his way onto the squad with his late season heroics. But, I could also see Trinity's Benjamin Coultard slot into the #3 goalie slot too.

Those are the picks...We'll find out at the banquet on Thursday!

Re: All-Americans Watch 2013

If you go by the numbers, Neumann's Braely Torris and Trinity's Ben Coulthard both look to have had better years than Cadieux. . .Or is Torris not eligible because Broadwater was the ECAC West first teamer

I believe you have to be 1st team in your conference to be eligible for AA status.

You definitely have to be first team for forward and defense. I'm not sure about goalie. I want to say first and second team goalies are considered.

Re: All-Americans Watch 2013

Is Paul Rodrigues the front-runner for National Player of the Year? Or is there someone else I'm missing? Maybe Jacobson with St. Norbert? Buehler with Wesleyan? Mulvey with Norwich? Interested in what others may feel about this. I could see Educate and Merasty sneaking into the conversation too I guess. I think it would be between these six though.

2013 Sid Watson Award Finalists
Player's Name Position Class School
Kevin Buehler F Jr. Wesleyan
Joseph Caveney F Sr. Fitchburg State
Louie Educate F So. Utica
Zach Graham F Sr. Adrian
Jeff Harris F Jr. St. Olaf
Shaun Jameson D Sr. Wentworth
Colin Mulvey F Sr. Norwich
Paul Rodrigues F Sr. Oswego
Brandon Stephenson G Sr. Wisconsin-Eau Claire
Saxton Soley G First-Year St. John's

heres the list unformatted, id say probably up in the air between Paul Rodrigues or Louie Educate

Re: All-Americans Watch 2013

So that list of finalists looks like a list of the players of the year for each conference . .

That's normally what it shakes down to every year with an outlier or two. It also normally goes to a senior rewarding a career rather than just an individual season.

Taking all those factors into account, I'd say Rodrigues is the slight favorite followed by Stephenson, Mulvey, Graham and Educate.
