Congrats, Nooks, on winning another Cup
WOOOOO! Thank you for that.
On to Mankato.

Thanks. Glad we pulled it out...two weird games for varying reasons.
On to Mankato.
Final average attendance was 2,194, not counting the games at the Patty Center. Our biggest crowd was the last home game against Lake Superior State. Smallest crowd, ironically enough, was the Friday night game against LSSU.
WCHA scheduling stinks but it is what it is. It's hard to get much fan momentum when your biggest rival is over the holidays, plus games on Thanksgiving weekend and a six week road trip.
Good luck in Mankato. They are gonna need it. But it is definitely doable by this Nanook team. I was looking at your roster last night, and was shocked by how many freshmen and sophmores you guys have. Should be an even better team next season.
Scheduling was goofier than usual because of the decision cut a week off the regular season for an extra round of playoffs. As for playing at home on break, two weekends are affected by Turkey Break and generally three to four playing weekends by Christmas break. It's inevitable that you'll have to play some home games during break, however, IMO, those should never be rivalry games, unless you have a very early Spring break the last regular season weekend.
Typically the last two Gov Cup games, coinciding with the last two games of the season, draw well in either city but I wish they'd give us a better weekend for the first two. One year (think it was 14-15) they scheduled the first two on the tail end of Christmas break in Fairbanks. Other years in the WCHA it's been in December. I kind of wish they'd go back to the early 2000's and schedule the first two in October and the last two on the last weekend. I think it would help the rivalry and the attendance on both sides.

Early November would be ideal. Of course the Alaskas have municipal arenas, so that seems to throw another Monkey Wrench into the scheduling sometimes too.
Anything but the home and home series we used to do. I think we don't have the Classic anymore, if you guys scrapped the Brice, we should just play eight times a year. We both need to save money, we both have a hard time getting OOC teams coming up here. But will this happen no, because everything at UAA is ****ing backwards. Puts a lot more emphasis on the Gov Cup, it might dilute the series but if Alaska Airlines could slash prices it could help greatly with attendance for both our venues.
I have no desire to play that series eight times a year. Maybe six if we had to, but I'd still rather get someone else on the schedule. Doesn't dilute the meaning of our series and helps out the conference if we win. We haven't had too hard of a time getting good teams up for the Brice...I've heard some talk that one noteworthy NCHC team is interested in coming back soon. Fact is, that Alaska exemption is still a carrot for some teams.

That was the reasoning I was told that the first game during the Classic didn't count was due to UAA having 3 home games to UAF's 2.
Word on Twitter is the Kenai River Brown Bears are done after the 2017-2018 season. First the Aces, now this...let's hope this trend doesn't continue!!

First the Avalanche, then the Aces and now the Brown Bears. I do not like this trend one bit!
I am a bit surprised the Brown Bears franchise doesn't look at moving to Anchorage or Wasilla. While the economic environment isn't great, they'd have a bigger fan pool and sponsorship pool than they do in Soldotna, especially with the Aces leaving. Not to mention travel costs would be easier.
Makes me wonder what the future has in store for the Ice Dogs.
