Unfortunately our team has so many weaknesses and we haven't improved much during the season. Very disappointing.
Hope they come out inspired in the third.

Why have the Nanooks been a huge disappointment this year? At the beginning of the season I would of thought you guys might be right up there for home ice for the start of the WCHA playoffs.

We got a chance to see what we'll look like next year without T. Morley. He wasn't on the ice in period 2 or 3.

It’s still somewhat a six way race for who wants to get in the playoffs, but I think NMU will separate a little down the stretch, leaving five of us to battle it out. Below are the remaining matchups, with home games in bold (NMU/MTU is H/H). Along with UAH, I think either UAA and UAF may be the most likely to sit out, but by narrow margins. LSSU and BSU are also definitely in danger. Except for hoping the Nooks split with BGSU at the Carlson, I haven’t figured anybody taking any points from MSU, MTU, or BGSU down the stretch. Keep in mind my bias as I try to figure out what it will take to keep the Nooks in it. All of us need at least splits in our other series to stay in the running. One good or bad weekend could hold your fate. Haven’t heard why T. Morley was off the ice in periods 2 & 3 Saturday night. If he’s out, we're out imho.

Summary:
UAA: 4 home & 4 away games left, 2 vs a top three team, 2 vs rival on the road. Guess 1-4-3
UAF: 6 home & 2 away games left, 4 vs a top three team, 2 vs rival at home. Guess 3-4-1
UAH: 4 home & 4 away games left, 4 vs a top three team, 2 vs rival on the road. Guess 0-6-2
LSSU: 4 home & 6 away games left, 2 vs a top three team, 2 at UAA on the road. Guess 2-6-2
BSU: 4 home & 4 away games left, 4 vs a top three team, 2 vs rival at home. Guess 2-5-1
NMU: 5 home & 5 away games left, 2 vs a top three team. Guess 4-3-3


The last playoff spot could very easily come down to the final series between UAF vs UAA. Both a playoff spot and the Governor’s Cup would be on the line in this heated rivalry. Good entertainment (but probably crappy hockey).

I watched Saturday's night game vs Wisconsin, but didn't see what or if anything happened to T. Morely. But I don't think he was on the ice in the 2nd or 3rd periods. That's a major blow if we hope for any chance to even make the playoffs, much less to his own well being if he re-injured his knee. Anybody heard anything?

The USCHO report on the Alaska-Wisconsin game says that Tyler suffered "an upper-body injury during the second period. Alaska Coach Dallas Ferguson said Morley would be re-evaluated when the team returns to Fairbanks." So it doesn't sound like it's his knee.

Also, the WCHA blog says he's "perhaps out for a lengthy period of time."

I hope the news turns out to be happier. He works so hard on the ice -- he deserves a better end to his college career.

Other than Tyler, are the Nanooks healthy? UAA is down 6 or 7 players!! Not good. Morley is a big cog in your wheel, but I'd take your situation over UAA's any day.

Articles say he has a lower body injury. Didn't he have reconstructive knee surgery after the end of last season?

The Nooks get shut out 4-0 by Bulldogs Friday night. Fortunately both UAA and LSSU also lost, allowing us to stay marginally in the hunt for the last playoff spot. Need a win tonight.

It's been likely for a while now that the Gov Cup series would decide the last playoff spot, but we really shot ourselves in the foot against Ferris State. Here's our remaining schedule compared with UAA:

UAF:
2/12-13: Off
2/19-20: Bowling Green
2/26-27: @ Michigan Tech
3/4-5: UAA

UAA: 2/12-13: Off
2/19-20: Lake Superior State
2/27-28: Minnesota State
3/4-5: @ UAF

Basically, we close the season against the second and third place teams in the conference and against a rival that we haven't beaten at home since 2014. And, we haven't won a home game since November, period. They play the games for a reason but it's hard to have a whole lot of optimism at this point, especially if the reward is a trip to Mankato to end the season.

I suppose we could theoretically go 6-0 to close things out and forget the last few months, but assuming that doesn't happen I'm chalking this up as, easily, the worst season since Dallas has been head coach. The only other one that even comes close is the 11-win thud in 2011-12. People who only casually pay attention would just say it's because Parayko went to the NHL, but it's more than that. This team wasn't expected to be world beaters this year but easily should have been contending for home ice based on talent alone. We've had a lot of bad breaks, but there's also been a lack of heart many nights. Disappointing season.
