Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

What happened to the videos from the go pros the refs were wearing a couple weeks ago?

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

I see the Seapups fell victim to Ferris State’s quirky rink, their aggressive and unrelenting play around the opponents net, and outstanding goaltending by Motte. It’s the way they roll. They bring everything but the quirky rink north next weekend.

I think the Nooks may be the better skating club but FSU’s strength is our weakness…defense around our net, including our goalkeeping. Ferris doesn’t d*ck around with the puck very much. Not a lot of cycling going on. They go to the corners, get the puck on net, and usually have one or two guys breaking or fighting for position when it gets there. If you aren’t ready they will burn you. Get ready. Home ice and possibly even making the playoffs is at stake. Let’s help MSU catch the Bulldogs.

Should be a great series. Hope the U puts a little effort into promoting it.

Go Nooks!

Two seasons ago, during their Frozen Four season, Ferris State walked off the plane at FAI late Thursday afternoon (roughly 26 hours before gametime) and proceeded to get shut out 2-0 on Friday. Granted Scott Greenham was in net at the time, but the point is that we can take them, especially at home. Not saying it will be easy, but I think we can get something out of the weekend playing at home and on a roll.

As for promotion, we aren't playing UAA until the following weekend. Just sayin'.

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

I like our chances this weekend. We are playing with confidence, peaking at the right time, and all lines are contributing. We just need solid goaltending and to limit our mistakes. Easier said than done, but very doable.

Conference points. Conference standings. Heated rivalry. I don’t think anyone has to promote the Governor’s Cup unless we get bored winning it year-after-year-after-year. So far that hasn’t gotten old.

Go Nooks!

I like our chances, I watched some videos of those games at Ferris and at least 4 of the goals were from defensive mistakes or bad bounces. I think if we clean it up and play the way we are capable we will earn some points this weekend. I still think there is a good chance that the loser of next weekends series with ACC will be out of the playoffs, the numbers don't look good for both teams.

Depending on the outcome of our series with Ferris State, there is a pretty good chance the GC loser stays home.

Yep.
4 games left. 2 vs Ferris and 2 vs UAA
Win 3 or 4 and most likely we finish 3rd or 4th in conference.
Win just 2 and we could miss the playoffs.
Win just 1 or 0 and we will probably hear the fat lady sing.

For many teams a tie would be as bad as a loss on that last weekend. It would be interesting to see someone pull their goalie in OT. Hope it doesn’t have to be us. Exciting stuff.

UAH can take inspiration in that any point they can steal these next couple of weeks could very well be the death nail in someone’s season. Even a tie will hurt someone’s tiebreaker position which will certainly come into play.

The Nooks are in a precarious position, but I think BSU, NMU and LSSU may even be a half step closer to the edge than we are.

We just need to take care of business against Ferris then UAA.

Go Nooks!

As a Ferris fan, I'm just going to chime in for a post or two. This is a tough trip for Ferris! Ok, this is a tough trip for any team to make. With that said, Ferris is playing well and I see two points for each team this weekend. If Ferris stays focused and sweeps this weekend, the WCHA cup could be in their hands by the end of the weekend. I would love to make the trip one year to see Ferris beat up on either Alaska team, but for now its just a pipe dream.

So with all that said....................... GO FERRIS!!!!!!

If you want to watch Ferris beat up on an Alaska team, you'd have better luck in Anchorage. ;)

This is a big weekend for the Nooks, and I hope we continue the wounded dog mentality we seem to have developed in the last month or so. If not,it's going to be a long weekend.

Well now...winner winner chicken dinner. Congrats to basketball for getting that monkey off their backs.

Osbourne kept you on the map in basketball, why would you want him gone? Nooks wanted this game more, plain and simple.

The past three seasons have been mediocre at best. Osbourne keeps over recruiting and we have lost a lot of really decent talent over the years due to lack of playing time (Colin spickerman and jalen little come to mind).

Yes I'll admit uaf wanted it more tonight, but that streak should've ended last year. If osbourne leaves, I hope UAA plucks Durham from you rednecks

Edit: i have a lot higher expectations for the basketball program.

Was really hoping UAA would have taken that game. Oh well BBALL still in the playoffs.

UAA needs butts in seats to fill this new palace of yours starting next year. You don't put butts in seats by losing games. If I was AD, I wouldn't willingly part ways with a known winning coach in that scenario.

I hear there will be lots of ice in that new palace.
All of it in drink glasses.
I haven't asked if they will have beer glasses. By the way, those don't require ice, so........
And does the Patty allow alcohol??? They've got ice in there.

I think the monkey is still pulling the reins ………
ALL-TIME vs. UAF: UAA leads 73-22 (31-17 at UAF) / Last Meeting: UAA 96-76 (12/7/13 at UAA) / Streak: UAA 16 / Notes: UAA has the longest streak in series history at 16, although the last four of the last five games have been decided by six points or less … UAA has won seven straight at the Patty Center since a 76-73 loss on Jan. 28, 2006 … UAA leads 20-6 in GNAC meetings (since 2001-02) and 43-10 since 1990 …

I knew this would bring you out of your bat cave. Nice copy and paste work.
