Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

Re: Alaska Nanooks 2013-14 Season Thread - On the Road to Perdition...

watching the game right now. The announcers for bemidji don't realize there are two alaska teams, apparently. They continually refer to us as alaska-anchorage. Awesome, they don't even know what team they are playing against...

The guys they have up their are not very bright or good.

They had made a comment about how they have more skilled players on their team...I was like yeahhh that's why we just had 5 different guys score on your usual go-to goalie.

One of them also said "Do we even know what a Nanook is?" then played it off that most people in the lower 48 wouldn't know what it is either.

My apologies for the TV coverage referring to you wrong last night. The only excuse I can think of is that the color guy named Monsrud was gone and having a former student backing up our play by play guy threw the whole night off. I am sure there was absolutely no disrespect intended because Bemidji just isn't that type of place. As an alum of BSU and as a Beavs fan, we're sorry.

On to other items, you guys have an excellent power play. Very unselfish players who work hard to find the open shot. Congrats on the win. Well deserved.

No need to apologize. We need to lighten up a bit. It’s a couple of guys trying to keep the banter flowing who are used to playing Anchorage. Our guys called MTU two or three other names all weekend long when they were up here. Old habits die hard. Your guys were generally proud and complimentary of your team without being disrespectful to ours. They gave our team credit where due. It’s the way it should be. Overall, the quality of your AmericaOne stream is very good. I hope ours gets to that level.

Regarding the games. I expected more even play than I saw. I thought the Nooks were clearly a faster and better skating club (no disrespect to BSU’ announcer’s opinions :)). And finally we got a couple of bounces our way. We have played some good games this year but shot ourselves in the foot with defensive miscues and less than stellar goalie play. Hopefully we have turned the corner and start climbing in the conference standings. We are as good as any team in this conference. Now we just need to put the shovel down and prove it in the second half.

Funny you should mention that. I watched your game against Tech, and as mmf said, Bruce referred to Tech as Michigan State three times, and yet another team once or twice. :D

I guess it's a good thing that they hate Huntsville, then. But he calls us Auburn, I'll be there in 22 hours ready to fight somebody.

I was looking at the nooks statistics and just realized that Jared Larson has only played 5 games, with one assist and one goal, I think I witnessed both of those at the Kendal Classic. What happened to him, he looked good in Anchorage? Is he injured?

Jared was injured in the Mercyhurst series so hasn’t played a conference game. He definitely makes us a better team, and will hopefully be returning this next home series against MSU.

We have dug a pretty good hole, but we can still climb up the conference standings in the second half. We only had 4 conference home games in the first half and 8 on the road. In the second half we have 10 home games and 6 on the road.

We haven’t been good at home so that has got to change. I think the big ice just exposed our poor defensive play even more. Most of our losses have been by one goal, and usually from some really bad turnover. I think we have turned the corner on that. Overall we are faster and a better skating club than most, so can compete with anyone.

This next series at home with MSU is huge IMHO.

Go Nooks!

Last I heard Larson was practicing again. Hopefully he will be back for the Mankato series.

I was encouraged by the Anchorage and Bemidji series'. Bemidji should have been a sweep, but that's the way it goes in hockey sometimes. If we have a successful second half, that Saturday game against UAA will probably be seen as the turning point.

Looking at the standings, third or fourth place is still a realistic goal. I think Bemidji will come back to earth a bit, and UAA has been lousy on the road so far and suddenly mortal at home. If we can muster 6 or 7 points in January we will be on our way. It's been frustrating defensively, but moreso we need to find our go-to goalie.

Speaking of UAA, word is that they found the two guys who attacked our mascot.

You mean the two innocent folks just trying to have a little fun who were attacked by your rabid out of control goons.
Seawolf fans would never stoop to the lows your so called fans lower themselves to.
And the only corner ua_ turned is to return The Cup to it's rightful place on UAA campus.

At the Saturday game two UAA fans stopped by the UA_ student section to offer their congratulations and were set upon by rabid (perhaps inebriated?) nanook "fans".
Fortunately the UAA well wishers were able to escape the clutches of the out of control UA_ mob.
In their haste to avoid being further maimed they inadvertently brushed against the nanook mascot.
Unfortunately the UA_ mascot attire was being worn by a very elderly and feeble gentleman who being overcome by the extreme heat of the nanook disguise sat down when being merely brushed by the two gentlemen trying to escape the crazed howling mob.
