Air Force Beats #5 CC!

Re: Air Force Beats #5 CC!

Love how the thread for AFA beating the #5 team is on 3 pages, whereas the Catamount Cup thread where RIT beat #10 and #16 by a combined score of 6-1 in back to back games on the road.. has no replies.

" We'll put our best foot forward and go for it."

Let's hope that wasn't it.
Maybe most disappointing were the post-game excuses (they're more talented, we expended a lot of energy and emotion last night, we had a month off and we're out of shape, etc. etc.)

Last two games against DU in our building were a win and an OT loss. This was embarassing.

Re: Air Force Beats #5 CC!

If we're going to talk about "unique recruiting limitations" then what about trying to recruit players to come play in Alaska (where it's cold, dark, and you're very far away from your family) at a school where the University system seeks to subjugate it at every turn.

Spare me the lectures on "unique recruiting limitations".

For kids from Manitoba, Anchorage is balmy.

DU 7 AFA 1. Final. CC Sucks. lol.

LOL Todd! The AFA victory never warranted a thread in the first place and most people know that. You crack me up dude. What's up with the hot tube ambiguously gay duo get together?

Seriously? You guys have one of the longest running threads on here every year, and you are whining about what is essentially a Colorado hockey thread.

Look, there aren't many AF fans who know about this forum and when you beat a team that has a 58-8 record against you and you have been the little brother in the same town for a long time, it warrants a thread - I have seen threads that were less warranted.

AF always takes a big break for finals and Christmas. This was their first hockey since Dec 3 and the first weeks back are traditionally rough. Getting one on CC was nice but last night was a dose of reality against DU. Things went bad, and kept going that way.

Regardless, I don't understand all of the kickback from starting a thread with a victory over your crosstown rival; especially in an area of the country that doesn't get a whole lot of coverage from the hockey world.

Congrats to DU, it was a real butt-kicking!

I don't think any of us begrudge you the thread; not at all. The issue is that when I started a thread for the Catamount Cup post-facto, it was criticized as boastful.

You never should have been criticized for being boastful and that reaction was way out of line. That was a worthy thread, IMO, and something you had every right to be excited about.

In all honesty, I think the reaction maybe different here because it is Air Force, and because it is in state. Whether AFA had beaten CC or DU, the fan response would have been the same from both AFA fans and from the losing team's fans. Believe me, for YEARS now, CC and DU fans worry about AFA more than just about anyone. There is a lot of respect between all three of these programs and fanbases (Yes, even the CC/DU rivalry). So as a CC fan, I don't see it as boastful at all. Maybe that is because AFA is my second favorite team and I follow them almost as closely as I do CC, but I doubt it. This was a HUGE win for Air Force. First time they've ever won at World Arena, and the first time they've won on CC's home ice since 1985. Also, it is no overstatement that Air Force helped save CC's program by allowing the Tigers to use the Cadet Ice Arena as their home ice for three seasons while the World Arena was being built in the mid-late 90s. So you'll find few CC fans who begrudge any Air Force fans.
