Re: AHA Post Season Pick'em

I think I've found a minor flaw in the scoring system. Take the Canisius-Mercyhurst series, for example. If you picked Canisius in 2, you got (and deserve) three points. If you picked Canisius in three (slightly less accurate, but at least you got the series winner right) you got only one point. Likewise, If you picked Mercyhurst in three (wrong series winner) you also got one point. Even if you picked Mercyhurst to sweep (completely wrong) you still got one point, because there was no game three on Sunday. Basically, no matter what, everyone got at least a point for that series, regardless of the accuracy of their picks. While I ordinarily am not opposed to socialism, (the military is, after all, a socialist institution) I think everyone receiving the same reward for varying accuracy of forecasting might be a bit unfair.
My two cents. On to the picks:

Semifinals
Canisius vs RIT
Air Force vs Sacred Heart

Final
Pick the winner: ___Air Force__________

I see your point here. Again, it is too late to change for this year, but maybe next year we can look into extra points for picking the series winner in the right number of games, etc. I will gladly take any suggestions you have. Thanks!

I propose the format used by the ECAC playoffs, or at least a variation of it. There are some issues with the scoring (outlined by Maine-iac in post 123). Maybe the AHA could fix them.

Looks like a good idea at first glance. I thought about switching it to picking the winner in how many games for the quarterfinals - this eliminates picking the wrong team on the wrong night. I don't see what the team affiliations are for (but I didn't really read too much into it - i will later). I don't think that we would have a very fair spread of affiliations here.

vicb holds the individual contest, as well as a team contest. The team contest is just an average of everyone who cheers for a specific team. It's just a little side competition. If you check out the team affiliations on the ECAC thread, RPI dominates in numbers (20+ with no other team having more than 10).

(If you do end up reading through the thread, be prepared to deal with lots of stats and probability theory around post 110.)

Re: AHA Post Season Pick'em

My picks

RIT over Canisius - RIT will finally advance in the AHA playoffs due to superior goaltending and defense. The Tigers are playing their best hockey of the season. Canisius will keep it close, but RIT will prevail 4-2

Sacred Heart over Air Force - This will be an incredible game. Air Force smoked the Pioneers a couple weeks ago. This game will be much closer. I predict overtime. Pios 3, Air Force 2

Final

RIT over Sacred Heart - The Tigers won 3 out of 4 against the Pioneers. DeMichiel will be the differance. Tigers 3, Sacred Heart 2
