To Adrian, WOW! One Hell of a fight, just like in Oswego in January. In fact, this was virtually that same game, minus the penalties. Did well on the PP, functioned VERY well in the offensive zone, broke out of the Dzone really effectively. But often left Fogal out to dry, resulting a deficit that was just too much to overcome. They may have lost the game, but I think they proved that they are a high-caliber team that can do well in this league, especially now with the AQ.

Congratulations to the Green Knights. Extremely talented team. They should do very well in Lake Placid. Very impressive in both ends of the rink. They're my choice now.
Congratulations to our BullDogs. You guys made all of us very proud and proved to the world that you are for real and should have been invited the last 2 years to the NCAAs. You can play with anyone. Great job guys.

Correction .... SNC is 19-0-1 and 198-1-2 under Coghlin when leading after 2. I guess every game isn't different

Congratulations Adrian - you respresented your league well and have solidified your position as a legitimate threat in my mind.
I think Adrian has a little bit more skill on the offensive end than SNC, but I think their inexperience showed in the turnovers committed while attempting to break out of the D-zone. This is where the level of competition played throughout the year may have been a hinderance, you didn't see SNC making the same mistakes (maybe once) and I feel like that was the difference because Adrian WOULD have buried more of those mistakes than SNC did.
I felt like SNC played pretty tentative in the 1st period. Then they determined what worked and put it together for 10 minutes in the beginning of the second period. Once they got up 4-1 they really dissapointed me. The intesity seemed to drop off and it felt like they packed it in. Adrian was on the ropes and putting the game away with a couple of more goals was necessary. I've seen the box scores, I knew Adrian was capable of scoring lots of goals FAST! SNC was luck to hang on.
SNC gets a B- from me for this game. Gustavious will require a B+ or better this weekend - In Mankato last year against SNC, Gustavious was just as explosive as Adrian appeared to be tonight - but they also make better decisions in the D-zone.
Again, Adrian played well tonight and caused part of the B- performance out of SNC. A complete game will be required to beat the competition out east.

A very entertaining game. To me, I think the difference was SNC was able to kick into a higher gear for that stretch of the second period. Frankly, the way SNC was buzzing, Adrian was lucky the Knights didn't score more in that stretch. At no time tonight did the Bulldogs ever get into that gear where they simply dominated play - and converted.
As someone mentioned, SNC mistakes were the key to Adrian getting back in it. Killing off that 5 on 3 was huge.
Adrian accounted for itself very well, but SNC was a bit better - on the ice and on the scoreboard. Bring on the Gusties.

Well, from what I saw tonight (and I was able to see most of this one), the refs did call it a lot more loosely than what I'm used to seeing at Arrington. Could they have called more on both sides? Absolutely. Was it necessary? Of course not. It was a fairly clean game by both teams and not much chit-chat between the teams in between whistles. I think there might have been 7 penalties tonight total, 8 tops.
I didn't have a beef with the officiating tonight, not in the least.
The weird thing about the Oswego game was, that was the only N/C game where penalties were an issue. Both Hamline losses were mild-mannered affairs, and the two games over Thanksgiving were pretty quiet as well, from both sides. I don't know what happened in Oswego.

I agree wholeheartedly.
However, I'm used to CCHA officiating, where if more than about 100 seconds go by, someone is putting a hand in the air and a whistle is getting blown. I saw more than enough of it at Ewigleben and Yost, and ****ed if they don't send those guys to Adrian as well.
About a decade ago I saw a Michigan-MSU game at Joe Louis Arena. A real up and down game, plenty of physical play, probably on the border of really getting rough. The referees put the whistles away and let the guys play. Anything egregious was called, but the game was reasonably in control.
A few weeks later I was back for the CCHA playoffs and ran into one of the linesmen I had met earlier in the season. Tom Anastos (CCHA commissioner) was with him and the three of us chatted for a couple minutes. I told them I was at the Michigan-MSU game and really liked how the game was officiated. Anastos looked at me like I had just grown a 2nd nose and asked me, "You really liked that?!?!?" I told him, "Yeah, the refs got the hell out of the way and let the guys play. They let the ticky-tack stuff go and kept control of the game, and the game had a nice flow to it". Mr. Anastos couldn't get out of there quick enough. *shakes head*

I'm so proud of our Bulldogs. They played a very strong, and well coached team. The Green Knights afforded Adrian very little room to free wheel. It seemed like a white sweater was always in the neighbourhood putting pressure on. Even with a 2 goal lead they forechecked aggresively. Even so, we were persistent and made it close.
The Bulldogs can compete, and accounted for themselves very well in their first tournament appearence. Any fan of the sport had to be entertained by this game. I wish we had a schedule that would permit us to play more than just 5 games out of the conference.
Good luck SNC I hope you win it all ! You have a great hockey team, a program with great tradition, and a fantastic fan base.
I look forward to our next meeting. We'll be even better then !!

The few extremists who thought Adrian was wasting someone else's tournament bid are full of crap. I thought they'd be pretty decent, but they were a little better and deeper than I expected. This was a tournament team plain and simple. I secretly thought SNC would win by 3 or 4 goals because Adrian was used to working in a lot more space in the MCHA than they were going to get tonight. The game looked like it could have gone that way, but they held their composure. I like that the two teams were allowed to play. They both played a clean game and were properly rewarded for it. There was only one soft call the entire game and I didn't see much for bad no calls.
SNC played pretty well in the second half of the 1st period and most of the 2nd, but overall it wasn't one of their better recent efforts. They had some open nets where they rang the post and over-passed on some odd man rushes. When they pressured the Adrian D they did some good things. Some of Adrian's best work was on the PK. I've been wondering why more teams don't pressure the SNC power play because they really look to shoot from the point and generally don't make teams pay by outnumbering them down low. Adrian didn't let them get a thing on the PP. I thought #14 for Adrian was probably the best player on the ice tonight. That kid has skill.
Someone mentioned Fogle getting hung out a few times. Adrian was consistently looking to open up the ice with the long pass by sending their weak side wing flying thru center ice. It was somewhat risky and it caused some situations where they were outnumbered.

I was in attendance with some other UW-Stout students in section B last night. If you saw the only sign in the arena, then you saw my group.
Adrian has some great forwards up front and their goaltender Fogal played solid. Had Fogal not played well this game could have been out of hand by the end of the second with SNC scoring six or seven goals on that 1st/2nd period run.
Adrian's defense looked outmatched. They had trouble breaking out of the zone and were turning it over to SNC players both in the corners and neutral zone. The SNC forecheck was just too much at times for Adrian. As mentioned above, Adrian was sending a wing through the center of the ice and SNC was ready for it. I can't count how many times SNC picked off passes in the lanes and turned it around the other way, often right at center ice.
Adrian's special teams were great. SNC's powerplay was not tight at all and Adrian applied ample pressure shorthanded to thwart any chance to score. Their PK was rock solid.
Overall... Adrian played a hard-fought game and I respect their 3rd period effort to stop the 'buzzing' of SNC and grind out a chance to win. Overall SNC was the better team 5v5 and overall just looked more solid. SNC had plenty of chances to bury the puck. Puck's were bouncing, just a step too late etc. Many "OOOooooooo" - "so close" moments for SNC through out the game.
