Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

Once the team circled up, I thought we did a very nice job supporting our guys. But between the final buzzer and that, I swear I could hear fans walking out the exits on the other blue line. I could have heard a pin drop had it not been for Marian's team celebrating.

We are very proud of our Bulldog team and can't wait until they lace them up again for the next game. It's going to be an exciting season and a very sad one when that last home game takes place and we say goodbye to all those young men who have had a part in building such a successful program in such a short time.

GO BULLDOGS

I agree. That's going to be tough. That's one of the reasons I'm in absolutely no hurry for March to get here.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

You have to remember, fans are not use to watching Adrian lose. Reminds me of the 1999-2000 NCAAs Plattsburgh vs Middlebury. When Daoust scored the sudden death OT goal reality hit the Middlebury fans that for the first time since being allowed to compete for the NCAA title, they were done. Fans (especially little kids) knew nothing short of Middlebury playing in the National Title game, much like Plattsburgh hasn't not been in the SUNYAC finals in what? 20 years now? Bulldogs are fine. Its good to have some motivation!

You know, ACBulldog, what disappointed me, was the crowd's reaction right after the game, right after the clock hit 0:00. The place was silent except for the Marian celebration (and they deserved to celebrate). It was like it was a wake, like someone's dog got run over by the zamboni. My thought was, for God's sake, folks, this is a team that is 60-2 in regular season conference play over the past three years and change. We're fine. We're gonna be okay. It was bound to happen eventually. I said it in the lobby after the game. I don't see another MCHA team doing that this season. Lawrence scared the hell out of us in the MCHA tournament last year as well, but I think we'll handle them just fine.

We'll make our necessary adjustments and we'll go from there.

Yeah, I and many others were in shock. We were used to winning games and now that we lost people didnt know how to react. I also told someone that we were gonna lose this year bc all the other teams are recruiting a lot better. They will rebound and come back stronger, they have a long way to go until the Ncaa finals! Go Bulldogs

The more I think about it, the more I think you nailed it with your first sentence.

It seems every year we lay an egg early on, and we seem to respond fine. The first year it was Potsdam and Neumann. The next year it was Neumann. Last year it was the U-18 game. This year it was Marian.

Adrian will be back stronger than ever. They are still the best team in the MCHA and the most likely conference champion. I am not going to bet against them in either of the MSOE series or the Lawrence tilt (even though both will be stronger than last season). Their depth is just too strong.

5-3 and 4-2 wins this weekend in a sweep of Northland. *raises eyebrow*

Ummm. Okay. Sure. I guess I'll take it.

Northland is that much improved?

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

I dunno. Northland's 0-4 to start the year.

I'm making faces as I type this. There's some weird things going on in the league. Concordia beat Finlandia. Marian must have cast a magic spell that allows them to beat NCHA teams, but Adrian absolutely blew their doors off last Friday. From the looks of things, Adrian's been flat since that Friday game. I don't know what to think yet.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

After this weekend anyone think that Marian should be ranked higher that Adrian? They're even heads up against each other, and Adrian's quality victories = Marian, Marian's quality wins = Adrian, Stout, and Superior.

It would be a great stride for the league if they were to have two teams ranked and Adrian was the lower of the two...

Yeah, about that. If the score holds in Milwaukee I think we're going to be down to 1 MCHA team ranked.

Yeah, that's what happens when I forget how to read a live score feed. I thought that game was thru 2. Oops.

Yeah, my bad. For some reason I thought Marian only played one game this weekend...

Wouldn't that be cross-Czeching?

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

Adrian with an easier-than-I-expected 5-2 win over the Czech U-18 team. Don't let the shot totals fool you. Adrian was in control of this game from the start. By the time the Czechs got going, it was 3-0 and it was too little, too late.

I expected more from the Czechs. Someone at the game mentioned that they were playing their 5th game in 6 nights, so I could see fatigue being a factor, but quite frankly they didn't look overly talented. The USA U-18 teams that I have seen Adrian play the last two years would dispose of this Czech team quite handily.

All three goaltenders saw a period for Adrian, and a lot of guys that don't see much ice time got plenty of time tonight, and that was really good to see.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

I saw Barkwell played last night and scored a goal. I knew of him here out west when he played Juniors in the WSHL. This league doesn't put many kids on NCAA rosters, but Barkwell put up well over 100 points with 70+ goals in his final season. It was like, "alright, if this kid doesn't end up on a college team, this league may as well fold." What's even stranger is that before his time in the WSHL, he was on a Major Junior roster for a short time. An interesting path to the NCAA to say the least. Best of luck to him, and hopefully he finds himself dressing for more games this season...

Slow week in the MCHA. So, does Lake put up a fight against Adrian? More importantly, are people expecting a sharp Adrian squad to show up this weekend?
