However, the surgery's been postponed, because she had a manic episode.
Was that before or after the election results? :D

We have a close family member who is manic and it's never pretty. You're a good friend, Charlie Brown! ;)

I try. :)

As it turns out, she can have visitors, but she has to approve them first. So tomorrow, I need to give the facility a phone call and ask to speak to her.

Will be heading back to Wisconsin next week for a last visit with my stepmom. Sounds like she's not doing real good, as I was told recently that she's too weak to turn herself over in bed.

Got a call from my stepmom last night: my biological father passed away yesterday. Haven't heard anything of funeral arrangements, but I hope to know more in a couple days.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

Might of posted this before but can't remember. Every time someone dies I think of Lil's response to 9/11. The dip Kindergarden teacher played the news as it was unfolding while the K class watched. As I was letting us into the house after I picked him up ,Lil asked me, "Mumma why is everyone so sad?" I was a bit taken aback. I knew he was aware there had been so many deaths. I knew people who had died (we had lost patients and their family members) and was feeling pretty raw. I said something about everyone dying and it made people sad. He said, "But Mumma, when you die you go see God, right? God loves us. That is happy. Why is everyone sad?" I have never forgotten that. It is the definion of what I believe. When I feel sad when someone dies it is what I cling to.

High school football team from a section of NY severely hit by Sandy gets a pep talk before their playoff game. They could only get 25 kids to get to the game.<iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/53377854?badge=0" width="400" height="300" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe>

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

My thoughts with Shirtless and others who are suffereing from loss.

I could use a few good thoughts and vibes myself. I am currently in the midst of a job hunt as the money that has been paying my way to stay at SIU as a technician will run out at the end of the year. I have a masters and had started a PhD (my work has been in aquaculture) when I decided that I wanted to change course and being pursuing a job/career rather than finish the phd. Its not that I feel I wasnt smart enough or anything to do a phd, I just felt I could play to my strengths this way and was ready to not be a student anymore. I had full support of my advisor in making that choice. Anywho, I have been looking and its been tough. I have some applications out there and I heard about the first one today and was told by someone in the personnel deparment of this particular state that I dont meet the qualifications for experience. I needed 2 years total the 2 years I spent doing a masters counted as 1 year of experience and I guess the 2 towards a phd did not count for squat. Though I did spend 4 months working for the DNR in another state and have been a technician for 5 months so bascially I am like 3 months short. I am contacting the guy at the hatchery who is actually doing the hiring, maybe if he likes my CV and me enough he can override this.

But it is quite frustrating. In this field it seems like so many of the jobs want you to have X years experience and only count schooling for a very small portion of that (no matter how much experience you actually gained). Yet you can't get any jobs to gain experience because they all require prior experience. I know this can be a problem in a lot of fields actually. I am stressing a little though and it has made it tough to focus on the work I am still doing.
