Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

A friend, Matt Smith, who is a HE/ECAC/AHL official has found out he has stage 4 spinal/lung cancer. Please keep him in your prayers.

Please continue to keep my wife, who has stage 3B lung cancer, in your prayers.

Good thoughts headed your way

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

That is sad. I remember that she had a stroke. Sometimes that really screws the brain up. If you haven't talked to her medical team you might want to consider it- SOmetimes they have meds that help.
That's part of the problem; her old doctor suddenly quit the practice and the new one thinks Mom's a druggie, so the doctor took Mom off the pills that were actually working.

Also, when Mom went to the ER last, the EMTs mishandled her and broke her knee; we didn't find out until she went to see her orthopedic surgeon last month. As of her appointment yesterday, she found out that if the knee braces don't work, she might have to have her leg amputated.

Will do. F U, cancer!

Also, my friend Drew is having surgery on his hips today.

That's unbelievable! Do you have any sort of recourse or are the EMT's somehow protected?

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

I'll ask for a prayer of thanks. An old guy ran a red light Friday (the thirteenth) afternoon and t-boned me dead center on the driver's side. A woman who saw it said my car went up in the air "like in the movies." Landed on the right side, rolled the rest of the way back to upright, and went head on into a light pole. When I was upside down I relaxed and gave it over to God. I think He had already sent the angels. Airbags were deployed from everywhere. Several windows were shattered. There isn't a piece of metal on that car that you could salvage for another Honda CRV owner. Me? A couple scrapes, a couple bruises, and a bloody nose. I did more damage going down a flight of stairs unconscious.

Please pray for Burnell, the guy that hit me. I don't know why he ran the light, but pray that it doesn't happen again. And pray that if he didn't know the Lord, that he does now.
Yikes! Good vibes headed your way! (And everyone else's in this thread that is going through a rough time.)

Wow-you might want to have her see a psychopharm (psychiatrist) to have her evaluated which would give you ammo to show she isn't one. That really stinks about your Mum's knee-- no wonder she is in a FUnk!!

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

Just got the call from mom. Grandpa passed late last night. He was just short of 93.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

My Grandpa was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus (a catholic organization). Today during the first half of the viewing a current member of the Knights (in full uniform) stood at each end of the casket for the entire duration of the viewing (there were occasionally 'chaning of the guards' so they didnt have to stand in one spot to long). I thought that was pretty cool.

The Knights again stood gaurd today during the veiwing before the funeral mass. At the cemetary a military color gaurd was present as my Grandpa was a WWII vet (Asia-Pacific...signal corps). Taps was played and the flag was presented to the family. Afterwards all of the great grandchildren each released a balloon with a picture of my Grandpa on a small card attached to the balloon. The kids wrote a message on the cards and sent the balloons up. It was a small and simple ceramony but one I will remember.

Grandpa also continuned to be a prankster after death. After we placed the casket on the thing that lowers it into the ground it tried to roll off. One of the marines was standing close enough to stop it. We all let out a gasp at first but then had a good laugh about it.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

So now my sister's partner is in the hospital for emergency surgery to fix some pretty serious nerve problem in her back. She has Cauda equina syndrome

Also my uncle had surgery today to repair an aneurysm. From his heart downward to his feet his arteries are all now pretty much made of dacron (apparently its the synthetic fiber they use to repair an aneurysm). He has had a lot of aneurysms. I actually havent heard any news about this surgery but Im hoping thats a good thing.

EDIT: Uncle is in recovery after a 10 hour surgery. Will know more tomorrow.

Yeah cant seem to catch a break. It would be nice to go a month without some kind of health scare in the family...

March - dad rushed to hospital with blood sugar of 16
April - Growth found in dads head / moms parathyroid removed
May- brain tumor officially diagnsosed
June- Brain tumor surgery / grandpa failing health
July - continued recovery / grandpa failing health
August - dad rushed to hospital again / grandpa's death / mom throws out back
August into september - the stuff I just mentioned.

Maybe everyone will be healthy by Christmas when I go home for a visit again.

Wow. Just Wow. If this was a soap opera someone would say that there was a bit too much happening in the story line.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

my sister in-law is recovering and may get to go home. However, my late grandpa's widow fell and broke her hip today and will require surgery.

EDIT: Just talked to mom who is with my step-grandma. She is doing ok considering and should have surgery tomorrow. She had planned on moving into assisted living or something like that soon so we are hoping she will be able to do so after she leaves the hosptial.

Uncle is doing fine as far as I know.

But I did just find out that my cousin's 4 year old son has an enlarged kidney and will likely require some kind of surgery.

September isnt breaking the streak....

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

My dad called me at work and left a message saying it was urgent that I call him back. Well, I took a moment to call him, and he informed me that my mom passed away. I asked him twice to make sure he wasn't joking, and he was sure.

On my way home, I kept thinking this is some kind of joke, that when I get home, she'll be sitting up in bed and watching reruns of Law & Order, and I saw the hearse as I approached the driveway. I don't even know what to say, do, or think... at the very least, I know she's not suffering anymore.
