Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

Mitch Reinke
Keegan Ford
Cooper Watson
Thomas Beretta
Gavin Gould
Chris Gerrie
Angus Redmond
Carver Watson
Jake Gingell
Tristan Rostagno
Mitch Newsome
Jagger Williamson
have all signed NLIs of now...

Only guys that have not signed are Raymond Brice (I assume he's a walk-on), Keaton Pehrson, and Travis Brown.

With today's announcement here is what I expect to see next year without early departures:

Mitch Reinke, Keegan Ford, Cooper Watson replace Jimmy Davis and Walker Hyland

Thomas Beretta, Gavin Gould, Chris Gerrie, Raymond Brice, and Mitch Newsome replace Patrick Anderson, Alex Petan, CJ Eick, Malcolm Gould, Max Vallis and Brett Boeing (probably more here)

We lose 5 forwards plus Boeing and have 6 forwards currently committed but I'm not sure Newsome or Williamson get bumped up earlier, but Newsome seems far more likely at his age than Williamson.

Newsome hasn't really improved is ppg though so I don't know where he fits in.

I'd expect to hear about some more forwards for the upcoming season depending on how many forwards they plan to have next year. They had 17 this year, 15 last year if you ignore the 2 redshirts, 16 the year before that...right now they're likely looking at 15 for 2016 with Beretta, Gould, Gerrie, and Brice.

Pretty sure I experienced no more than 10 total days of 90+ degree temps in four years up there. Of the days that did go over, 3 of them were probably a 100-year heat event where we hit 99, 103, and 100 three days in a row.

That is what it was like for mel's wedding. Fri was close to 100, Sat was a "more comfortable" 80ish...

Last summer it was around 80, even at Eagle River.

EDIT: In MN for mel's wedding trip, it was over 90 by 10am. Got sunburned on the way up (top down on Jeep). And that is why I couldn't shave for the wedding, and had a beard. Yep, burned that bad.

College Hockey Ranked analyzed things at this point and specifically called out Michigan Tech:
http://collegehockeyranked.com/2016/01/06/a-first-look-at-the-2016-at-large-bid-cutlines/

According to their analysis, Michigan Tech needs to win at least 10 of their remaining 14 regular season games to go into the WCHA playoffs in a position to get an at-large bid. Winning 12 of their remaining 14 games puts them in the top 20 of PWR with a high of 10.

I actually think Tech has a better chance to make the tourney by winning the WCHA Final Five/Four. That weekend is a toss-up in my opinion right now, but I may change my mind after the Mankato games. I see Tech winning 9 games the rest of the way:
U-Conn
Sunday's game
MSU x 1
BGSU x 1
LSSU x 2
BSU x 1 (maybe a second win here to get 10?)
UAF x 1
NMU x 1

I would love to predict a Huskies sweep of someone other than LSSU, but given how the first half has gone if they do manage to get a sweep somewhere they are just as likely to get swept by MSU or BGSU. Tech's fate for an at large bid will pretty much be decided by Jan 30th. If they get four wins over BGSU and MSU things will be much more interesting in February. Otherwise we're just going to be battling for home ice and hoping for some lucky bounces at the WCHA tourney to go our way. Mankato has 14 conference games left: 2 v Tech and 2 v BGSU are the only ones against a team currently with a winning record.

For those not attending in person - the Sunday game will be free on pac-12.com - amazing to me there are no streaming options for Friday.

Tech's Game Sunday at Desert Hockey Classic to be Streamed Live

Posted: Jan 06, 2016

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech's game at the Desert Hockey Classic this Sunday (Jan. 10) will be available live via Pac-12.com. Fans can watch the game free-of-charge by clicking here.

The Huskies will play at either 2 p.m. or 5 p.m. ET on Sunday depending on the result of Friday's showdown with UCONN. Arizona State, who is hosting the event, will play the late game Sunday regardless of its result in the semifinals vs. Yale.

There is no live broadcast or stream of Tech's game on Friday (Jan. 8). Those not making the trip to Arizona to watch the Huskies take on Connecticut can listen to the contest live on Mix 93 and Pasty.net or follow along on Twitter (@mtuhky) for live in-game updates.
