Nice comeback win. Living dangerously.. three straight games against MSU trailing going into the final minutes and getting the goals they need.. have to start playing a full 60 minutes, and not just the last 10..

Go Huskies!! Finish it off with a win today
Totally agree. it was two different games. For 45 minute one game and 15 of the other one.

The highlight videos continue to be edited by someone who seems eager to get to bed. In the latest one, only three plays are shown, a replay of the first Tech goal is repeated, and the video ends on a close-up angle of Baltus just as he begins the downswing on his game-winning shot.

Has this been happening alot? Even during home games? It might have something to do with getting video from FSD?

For whatever reason I decided to look at collegehockeystats.net today and noticed the difference between last year and this year as far as scoring goes:

Last year we scored 3.51 gpg (6) and allowed 1.80 gpg (2)
This year we are scoring 3.05 gpg (18) and allowing 2.26 gpg (16)
We have fallen from #1 in the country on scoring margin per game to 13th.
Still half the season to go, but that pretty much tells the whole story of why we're where we are.

We're pretty darn close in these departments to being this year's version of BGSU 3.05 GF (15), 2.38 GA (21), 0.67 GD (15)

On the plus side though, we are beginning to see the offensive threats from Lucchini and Gillies.
I expect to see Jackson or possibly Blacklock in for Boeing tonight.

The big line needs to put pressure on tonight.
Our D is better than Michigan and will be a big determining factor tonight.
I see OT again.

There is little doubt that there is still time but the next 9 games are huge. The team really needs to go on a run. 3 more NC games with big PWR implications followed by match ups with the other 2 teams really in the hunt for the McNaughton this year, followed by Carnival.

I do like getting Blacklock in the game even at wing, and I love seeing the offense of Lucchini and Gillies showing up. Did you notice everything ended up coming from one line last night? Baltus-Lucchini-Gillies. If they can keep that up and allow Petan and Gould to stay together, I really like our offense going forward, especially since that means Heinonen is on yet another line with Eick and L'Esperance.

Yeah, every time. Anything good that happens for the opposing team is almost never shown. Everything else is rapid fire, by which I mean the viewer has little time to orient himself to what's going to happen before it actually does, and there's no time to take in what was just shown before they move on to the next play. Another odd thing is that whenever a second angle is shown, Dirk's call from that part of the game is always "live," so you end up hearing it two or three times. I would keep the audio rolling from the first call and insert only the video for the second/third angles. Also, it would be nice to see other scoring chances, some big hits, and some big saves, though those things sometimes are included.

I certainly am happy that any highlight video is available, and so fast after the game is over. There's just plenty of room for improvement.

Yes with Steman and Sturos still not at full potential as well. It needs to mesh, but still excited for the potential for this season.

Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

Sturos/Steman/ Boeing were not all that good last night. just didn't move their feet very well. Maybe, Blacklock/ Steman/ Vallis?

Faceoffs will be big tonight. As will staying out of the box.
Btw the refereeing was pretty good.

So I inquired to a contact and here is what I got:
Highlights from WCHA games come from our (MTU?) production staff.
Highlights from non conference games are supplied by the home school
or, if the game is on TV, whoever broadcasts the game.

In one sense yes two different games but I would say Tech controlled most of the game and Hildy was just hot. One glove save he made just over the pad he didn't even know he had it till a second had past. No puck luck

Jamie just is not as good this year as last, no reason they should have scored that many goals on that few of shots. Our offense is also way too spotty this year, the Lake State series is the perfect example of that.

Two of the three goal were off of deflected shots. You can't blame the goalie on that. It was a pretty evenly played game. Michigan had a little better puck luck. I do agree, Jamie played a little sharper last year. Nothing but a little more focus and I think he will be fine.

Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

I thought Racine was the better goalie tonight and that was the difference to me. Tech's 3ed and 4th lines were better than Michigan's and Michigan played the top 2 lines a ton of minutes in the second.... And it payed off for them.
We still have to get better on the pk, and the pp was pretty anemic.... We could get their box out of shape but then dithered around with the puck and let them get it back in shape before we did anything.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's bad or anything, just hadn't been as good as last year, but he was so phenomenal last year that it's hard to turn in that performance 2 years in a row. It doesn't help that the team isn't playing as well in front of him either.

I just hate losing to Michigan so much, I mega loathe Michigan and hate them in every way so losing to them in the championship sucks.

Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

Our first period was very good. The second, not so much. First half of the third, I thought they would tie it up, but Racine made the stops he had to. Last 10 minutes of the game, Michigan had us bottled up pretty good and we looked gassed.

If that puck that hit the crossbar had gone in to make it 3-1, I think Tech would've stolen back the momentum and it would've been a different result.

Totally agree with your last paragraph. Michigan had the puck luck. Even the broadcast team thought that one went in. Replay showed otherwise.

Kudos to Lucchini, Giillies, Jackson, Roy, Watson, Baltus, and Auk.

Needed more from our top end, Gould, Petan, Heinonen to lift the trophy, but Michigan focused on keeping good tabs on them.
Let's take the Arizona tourney, go Tech....

Like waking up with a bad hangover, so it feels losing to Michigan, but January will make our season, hopefully Tech is ready to rise to the occasion.
I hope to get to Bowling Green for the Saturday game.
