I thought it was pretty sloppy. We got the win, but sloppy, and LSSU should get their guys under control. You don't get three misconducts without really earning them. It's bush league to hurt guys because you are losing.

Quick summary of what caused the ejections? CFBs, head shots, etc?

Re: 95th Season of Hockey- Michigan Tech Huskies 2015-2016 - Thread #1

Well Tech has 6 games to play and they are two points out of the Cup. I think Tech has the toughest schedule remaining out of MSU and BGSU. Maybe you could argue BGSU with their match up against Ferris and a road trip to Alaska. I'm glad MSU has Bemidji the last weekend. In-state rival and you have to imagine the Cup will still not be awarded (at least for Friday night). Maybe they grip their sticks a little too tight Saturday night especially if Tech has their win with an hour still to be played at Mankato.
(Current position)
#2 MTU @ #6 BSU, vs #9 UAF, vs/@ #5 NMU
#2 BGSU @ #9 UAF, vs #4 FSU, @ #10 UAH
#1 MSU @ #10 UAH, @ #8 UAA, vs #6 BSU

One possible scenario that might really help Tech (maybe someone can crunch the numbers to confirm) would be to host UAA in the first round of the WCHA playoffs and beat them 2 games to none to neutralize that comparison. If Tech sweeps BSU and NMU to close out the season, regardless of where Tech actually finishes in the conference, I think they go into the playoffs as the favorite, even if they are not the #1 seed. Should be a fairly pro-Tech crowd at the Final Five(Four) this year if the Huskies get there.

If I was in a position of authority, and I'm not, but if I was, I'd be reviewing whether or not I want to play Lssu in non conference games.
Looking ahead to next week.... Games that matter for us. BGSU hosting Miami. Bemidji at UMD, PSU@MSU, Minnesota @ OSU. Even a split in those b1g games helps us. Lowell has home and home with BU which also is big for us. The next 6 games are huge all in all. I'm just hopeful we are healthy come playoff time.

Quick summary of what caused the ejections? CFBs, head shots, etc?

1st was Head Shot (mid 1st period)- not originally called on the ice and then it was a Major. I thought it was bad form for the refs to do that but I also didn't see that play. I was radio only.

2nd (mid 3rd period) was a CFB into the boards that required Vallis to get stitches and he also lost two teeth in the process. That was classified as a DQ.

3rd (late 3rd) was jawing at the officials - and from what I learned from Bill (one of the Lake State posters) Globke possibly has a previous history with the officials in this week's games. Frustrations boiled over from some issue he thought should have been called and wasn't. He was seen going to the locker room and then not too long after he returned, he was slapped with the 5-min & game for Abuse of the Officials. The only acceptable reason for that kind of penalty call would have been if Globke had threatened to go Wideman or worse on a ref.

It was an ugly third period.

According to Damon Whitten, the 1st DQ was a brutal call. The 2nd and 3rd DQs he agreed with and was very upset at those players.

As for the abuse, I know of at least one former ref that would toss (and did toss) a player for a personal attack combo'd with the F-bomb (Your reffing effing sucks!, was the quote). Now, this is where phrasing is key, in criticizing an official. You can say "That was a bad call" or "You made a bad call." There is a difference.

Globke yelled F U at the refs twice that I heard. The handshake was not friendly at all. Both Pearson and Shawan had words with Damon. Mel pushed him after Damon yanked his hands through gritted teeth. Should be a fun time next time!

I can't figure a way to an at large. its going to be the MacNaughton or nothing.

I have us at 15 after the Bemidji series if we sweep. I also have several scenarios where we are at 12 or even 11.

I think Tech has the toughest schedule remaining out of MSU and BGSU...

#1 MSU @ #10 UAH, @ #8 UAA, vs #6 BSU

I disagree that our remaining schedule is definitively the toughest. BG has to go to Fairbanks and Huntsville, and I'll grant you that they should sweep those two series, but anything can happen in an opponent's building, especially given how far BG has to travel. It's close, but considering BG's miles traveled, I would say it's a tie for "toughness" of remaining schedule.

EDIT: And I see now that Mankato has to make pretty much the same trip, so...

Plus, we've played fairly well in Bemidji as of late.

Here's what I have worked up as to the power and I'm sure there's things I missed. The teams around us either right on front or behind are the ones to worry about. draw your own conclusions.

I'll start in the east as we have several ECAC teams right in front of us.
Dartmouth. ( UC, RPI,Col,Cor,St L,Clark) I see them no better than 500 and most likely less. Clarkson: one of the hotter teams. ( Qpac, Prince, Brown, Yale, Har, and Dartmouth) I'm guessing 500. Cornell, ( Br, Yale, Har, Dart,UC, and RPI). I'm guessing 500 and that's being nice,.... RPI, ( Har, Qpac, Dart, Prin, colg, cornell) 500... maybe.
Mass lowell,... 2 vs BU home and home, 2 vs BC home and home, 1 vs AIC 1 vs Umass. under 500.
Minnesota: @ osu for 2, michigan x2, @msu x2, wisco. 500 maybe. a loss to osu or msu would likely kill it for them.Assuming they sweep wisco and split w michigan.
Duluth,... Bemidji, @ UNDx2, @ St Cloud x2, Miami at home. sub 500.
Penn st... @ msux2, osu x2, @wiscox2, @ michiganx2. 500 and if Msu or so wins one it will be real hard.

I would gladly trade ANY of our current match ups to play two at UAH right now. Anyone who can't take four at Huntsville this time of year with what the teams are playing for, doesn't deserve the Cup.

I disagree with your UML, Minnesota and PSU assessments. All will be over 500 with their remaining games.

UML - BU & BC splits, Ws against AIC & UMass.
Minnesota - Split w/ Mich, majority of points from the rest.
PSU - 4-2-2, losses to Mich, majority of points from the rest.

Glad you read it, but here's why I said what i said.
I can see Psu getting more than 500 but I don't think they win even one against michigan, OSU is no pushover, and Msu showed they can win every so often and they are at home.
I ran a scenario just for this weekend. Everything was the same except.... minnesota split with OSU and minnesota swept them. In this scenario, PSU and MSU split in both. in one Minnesota came out 14 and in the other 24. just that one change.
As far as Lowell, I think 4-2 is their best case scenario. in those four games vs bu/bc, I had them winning one.
Lowell hasn't been great lately. They did split with PC, but didn't deserve to win, and they tied NU and lost to UNH.

Did Mel really just push Whitten in the handshake line? Did I see that right? It didn't look like it was done for giggles. Hard to tell for sure since the entire second half of the game was a studdering, buffering mess.
Ryan J

Just watched the handshake on demand; no giggles at all. Strange; I can't imagine what was said to prompt that kind of reaction; Mel looked irate at him. Did anyone bring it up on the Mel Pearson show? Have to catch Whitten's show to see if he addresses it.

Mel talked about it - I gather he was unhappy that Damon wasn't controlling his guys - it's at the end of part 4 and start of part 5.

What I saw after the game was that Damon clenched Mel's hand and Mel pushed to get free.

That's what I took from his comments during the show.
