$5 Gas... It's De-Ja-Vu All Over Again...

Oh and now it's come to taking gratuitous shots.

Gratuitous? You put it out there buddy so yeah I am going to poke the bear! Gratuitous is what we would all be doing if you weren't someone we all liked. (which is on full display when those people post nonsense)

Why is suspending gas tax going to help? Oil companies have shown zero indication they’ll lower prices for anything

It doesn't....

But SOMETHING needs to be done because the Nazi's keep making a point about gas prices and about 70% of the country is ticked at the current situation...

Fuck, I'm looking at a fuel bill of around $300-350 for my fishing tournament this weekend over on Lake St. Clair. Last year this same weekend was around $125-150.... That stings. And I'm doing this two more times this Summer...

Everyone keeps thinking that people won't notice that their "Fun/Entertainment" activities this Summer just doubled in price. Very few of us take on these activities without thinking about the cost...

That's what the "Educated Left" keeps missing... They don't speak to those who don't follow the political in's/out's of politics.

It won't do a damn thing economically. But politically it's probably the right move. Try to explain this and you're going to need to get into economics, infrastructure funding, tax policy, etc.

If you don't do this you're giving the GOP a big club to whack you with for the next four months. No bueno.

People will get mad when it doesn’t actually lower prices. And it screws the highway funding

obama understood this back in 2008

People will get more angry if you don't do it.

You really think the average dumbfuck in this country is going to listen to someone take the time to explain why this tax doesn't mean much in their individual pocket and why the negative impact to highway funding is so significant?

The average dumbfuck in this country would fail the marshmallow experiment, even if you explained it to them.

But my point is, they’ll see joe said he was cutting tax to help him, it didn’t work, and now that falls on joe. But yes the average dummy was gonna blame him anyway

That's why you do the easy dumb thing that makes everyone happy for a few minutes while you find other knobs to turn.

Attack the oil companies more aggressively. Look at DPA. Whatever you can think of, throw a team at it and see where it goes. At this point the cost of living is going to slaughter the dems in the midterms.

The country isn't goig to survive long enough to need new roads if we don't win 2022 and 2024.

Great. You get a $100 savings over the next three months. Meanwhile my industry loses out on $20 Billion (with a B) of funding.

Also, why, if oil price per barrel is similar or less than it was in 2014, why is gas almost double the price? Why did the Republicans vote no to investigating price gouging? Why do the fucking Democrats always have to bear the problems the Republicans make?

New roads? You're lucky we're not seeing I-35 Bridge collapses more often. Here's a passenger rail line support in Chicago over one of the busy arterial streets. And there are hundreds more throughout the city. And that is before you get to the suburb transportation issues.

It was a glib joke. But frankly, it's going to take al El on State St before people understand just how shitty our infrastructure is. We should prevent that, but it took 35W before we started paying any attention much less the attention actually due.

Again, you and DGF are not wrong. At all. But I think the GOP gets a +0.25% bump if the admin doesn't do it. The GOP didn't pass a bill with a single goddam penny for infrastructure in four plentiful years under trump. If anything, you're going to get more money taken away when the GOP takes over.

Edit: WHat I couldn't believe is that this was a three-month holiday, not a six-month holiday. Hey, cool, raise taxes right before midterms. If we're going to cut off a finger, jesus, make sure we won't have to do it again.

And that's not including the thousands of light poles throughout the city of Chicago that need replacing because they are 40/50 years old and rusted straight through. Ive found light pole bases that were rusted through and covered with duct tape and painted just to hide the problems. Ballast boxes (the two foot tall square bases on some light poles) are structural, and I've found plenty where my hammer went though every side of 'em.

I'm sure every major metro has the same problem.

Oh, you're absolutely right. Optically, it's the thing Biden needs to do to make it look like "hey, I did something."

The consequences are gonna be felt for a long time though.

Meanwhile, Truck Nutz Kyle is gonna now b*tch about having bent rims from hitting every pothole between his house and the klan rally.
