#4 BC vs. #1 Wisconsin - NCAA Semis: BadgerBadgerBadgerBadger... MUSHROOM, MUSHROOM!

Re: #4 BC vs. #1 Wisconsin - NCAA Semis: BadgerBadgerBadgerBadger... MUSHROOM, MUSHR

Are you talking about the Lams?
Yes.

When I hear the term "hack" to describe a hockey player I think of someone without much skill who plays dirty or at least cheap in an effort to make up for their lack of skill. That would not accurately describe either of the Lams who obviously have all kinds of skill -they are each in the Top 5 nationally in scoring. They may be overly "aggressive" at times but I don't think the term "hack" is appropriate for either of them.
They're hacks.

Re: #4 BC vs. #1 Wisconsin - NCAA Semis: BadgerBadgerBadgerBadger... MUSHROOM, MUSHR

My definition of "hack" omits the part about being unskilled. A hack is someone who crosses the line in terms of physical play, though different people will draw that line in different places. It is play that is at least reckless, both in terms of taking dumb penalties and possibly hurting someone.

The Lamoureuxs are hacks. They were hacks when they were Gophers and they're still hacks at North Dakota.

I like this guy (gal?). (S)he knows what's up.

This was great. It's interesting to get a look into the psyche of how the team looked at the game last year. You could kind of see how they might have been a bit blinded by the lights, so to speak, early in the game... As things went on, they played better and came all the way back, almost taking the game. Lots of reasons for the Eagles to be confident in this one. I don't think they're going to get caught offguard by the upstart Badgers in this one. No more bracket busting!

Concur, and I'll add this note:

An unskilled hack is better known as a "goon".

Re: #4 BC vs. #1 Wisconsin - NCAA Semis: BadgerBadgerBadgerBadger... MUSHROOM, MUSHR

I guess I'm in the minority on this one, maybe because I'm a little older than you guys! But that's what a "hack" meant where I grew up, "back in the day". ;) For example, I never heard the term used when they talked about Gordie Howe, a great player but also an instigator who spent a lot of time in the penalty box. But he also had the skill to score a ton of goals when he wasn't in the box. In the years since there have been a lot of players like him.

P.S. I bet there isn't a coach in the country who would turn down an offer to add these two "hacks" to their roster!

Re: #4 BC vs. #1 Wisconsin - NCAA Semis: BadgerBadgerBadgerBadger... MUSHROOM, MUSHR

How does "Goon" suit you, then?

Whatever the term, I think I understand exactly where TTT20 and Eeyore are coming from.

A "goon" is a fighting specialist which of course doesn't apply in women's hockey (or men's college hockey either for that matter).

Whatever the term, I think I understand exactly where TTT20 and Eeyore are coming from.

OK, whatever! Two "hacks" with a combined 153 points. Where do they find the time to score so often? And how in the world does a "hack" become a Top 3 Kaz finalist? What were the voters thinking?

Re: #4 BC vs. #1 Wisconsin - NCAA Semis: BadgerBadgerBadgerBadger... MUSHROOM, MUSHR

At least one other hack, or goon or goon hack not playing this weekend too. Truth be told and matching the alternative interpretation. None of which has much to do with the Badgers / Eagles semifinal.

I concur with the minority on this one I guess.

I was wondering when you were going to come out from under your bridge.

(because you're always on post...)

The Lams were just named All-Americans as well -- Jo to the first team, Mo to the second.

Exactly, the fact they sit in the box that much and still score that much scares me to think what if next year they control PIMs, then there would be no doubt in who the best player in the country is. hack or not, numbers do not lie :)

Having watched an aggressive, chippy player on my fave team for the last four years, I would argue that some things don't change after a certain point in one's career. I've been wrong before... and would truly like to just see the skill without all of the other crap.

Thanks for the rep, Brooky. You must give out a lot of rep to be able to give me so much. Which further supports my belief that you have no life outside of these boards. I knew you would pipe up when you read about your favorite blondes getting some slack. Funny how it wasn't until I contributed that you got your fingers flying and clicking away. 12 of my 13 negative reps are from you and you alone. Interesting. "Actually believe the reality is under the bridge would be your favored shelter." brookyone NOBODY ELSE GIVES A CRAP!! Move on!

*sorry for jackin' your thread TTT20

They're likely to continue just as long as you continue to deserve them. Guess I should have a life such as yours and spend my days dreaming up the cheap shots I'm going to post everyday. That's a real life isn't it skatefast? Keep the cheap shot troll posts coming...or move on if you don't want additional reps.

I personally believe it's only fair to include Irwin in your discussion of hacks / goons if that's what you wish to discuss...apparently. I knew you weren't likely to do it.

This.

Also, 1) Goons don't have to fight. Gryba for BU a few years back was the very definition of a goon. Dude was a mountain troll on skates.

And 2) Gordie Howe wasn't a hack, he was just a bad, bad man  :D

How I haven't gotten any neg rep in this thread is beyond me. I'm almost offended...

I guess the fact of the matter is, the reasonable posters realize I speak the truth.
