Re: #4 BC vs. #1 Wisconsin - NCAA Semis: BadgerBadgerBadgerBadger... MUSHROOM, MUSHR
Let's have a quick rundown:
1) Wisconsin v. Northeastern: I'll give this to the WCHA, but not by much.
2) Minnesota v. Boston College: Toss up.
3) North Dakota v. Boston University: This is the Terriers and it's not even close (barf)
4) Minnesota Duluth v. Providence: Give this one to the WCHA as well, but an argument can be made for PC.
5) Ohio State v. Maine: Lol. +1 WHEA.
6) Bemidji v. New Hampshire: Not the New Hampshire of old, but this is still WHEA's point.
7) St. Cloud vs. UConn: What an awful, awful hockey team St. Cloud is. UConn's no Team Canada but they win this one too.
8) Minnesota State vs. Vermont: Toss up. I would not pay money to watch this hockey game.
Grant, your comments are based on opinion/conjecture instead of what actually happened this year.
The 13-2-1 record that the WCHA pasted on HE includes:
2 games vs. B.C. (finished 2nd)
4 games vs. B.U. (finished 3rd)
2 games vs. Maine (finished 4th)
2 games vs. Providence (finished 5th)
2 games vs. UNH (finished 6th)
2 games vs. Connecticut (finished 7th)
2 games vs. Vermont (finished 8th)
So, other than Northeastern, all Hockey East teams played WCHA teams, so the actual results were very representative of the strength of the two conferences.
And when comparing Northeastern and Wisconsin, you say "I'll give this to the WCHA, but not by much". Huh? In the most current USCHO rankings, Wisconsin is No. 1; Northeastern is No. 9. In the Pairwise, it's #1 vs. a tie for 5th - not exactly close either.
Another way to look at it would be to compare the rankings of all teams in each conference, using KRACH (which ranks all D1 teams). Here are the results:
WCHA.......................Hockey East
1. Wisconsin..............9. Northeastern
2. Minnesota..............6. Boston College
4. North Dakota.........10. Boston University
5. Minnesota Duluth....19. Maine
13. Ohio State...........21. Providence
11. Bemidji State........25. New Hampshire
27. St. Cloud State.....32. Connecticut
23. Minnesota State....30. Vermont
Average KRACH rankings:
WCHA - 10.75
Hockey East - 19.0
More importantly, when you look at the finishing order of each conference, 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, etc. Hockey East does not win one single matchup! I look forward to reading your rebuttal, based on some basis of fact as opposed to just your opinion. Based on this season's results, or using an unbiased ranking system, I don't believe there is any way you can spin it in Hockey East's favor.
But all that said, I do want to emphasize that at this important juncture past results mean nothing. When it gets to this stage - a single game elimination championship - anything can happen. A bounce or a misplay here, a post or a call against there can decide which team is champion and which one is not. I think you will agree, that's what makes it fun and exciting for us fans!
