3/17/12 - Oswego vs St Norbert - St Patty's Day battle of the Green for NC!

Re: 3/17/12 - Oswego vs St Norbert - St Patty's Day battle of the Green for NC!

Couple of scenes after the game that I will not forget in a long time

While the rest of his team was celebrating after the awards ceremony St. Norbert senior forward Seth Soley was looking at the scoreboard with his back against the crossbar and the tears were flowing.

Coach Coughlin's son was putting the Green Knight's equipment, that had been strewn all over the zone, in nice little piles, organized by number.

Seth Soley has been a wonderful addition to SNC after struggles at Tech. He has been a hard charger and great team player that seems to appreciate his new found home at SNC. He will be missed but I am sure that he will be a positive member of the SNC school and hockey alumni. Congrats to Seth and the entire SNC team.

I think I saw Rye whisper something to him...he probably asked him to do that. Pretty cute though.

Congrats to the Green Knights ...
You took on the best the East had to offer on back to back nights in our backyard and went home with the hardware. Consider my cap tipped!
At Norwich we expect we will be back to try you again next march ... can't wait!

Congrats to SNC on their great achievement. Thanks to all the seniors, what a way to go out your last two seasons.

Did anybody notice that not once was a game score mentioned on this thread?

It didn't need to be. It was clear who the better team was, even without a score mentioned.

Oswego just didn't have any energy on the ice. They looked completely wiped halfway through the first period. The Knights looked faster and stronger. Granted, the score was 4-1, but without Hare it may have been 8-1. He made quite a few nice saves, thanks to poor defense and bad turnovers. Ban the big sheet! :D

Congrats to SNC. They may not have looked like champions throughout the regular season, but they played their best hockey when it counted the most.

Just back for being out with the kids during and after the school play. Nice that the attendance was noted. Did anybody notice that not once was a game score mentioned on this thread?

From the NC$$ perspective, that WAS the score, it is also a link to the Box Score for everyone else. Once Easter and this year St Patricks day, had the Cardinals made it, I would have been forgiven for skipping out on the corn beef, cabbage and carrot dinner (with plenty of cheese), but alas I was forced to make due with the HDMI cables ;)

But you are correct, it is different that there were no goal scoring updates

Congrats SNC, maybe we can repay the favor next year!

Elbo's take

Elbo's take

The SNC squad on the ice this weekend was one of the most complete team I've ever seen skate at D3. They play team defense to perfection, and when they would occasionally break down, the goalie would bail them out. Very opportunistic on offense and convert from defense to offense in an instant. Don't know how Coughlin gets that much out of his players, but if he could sell it, many would buy it. I found myself spontaneously cheering their efforts alone.

I completely understand why the WIAC schools are taking their puck, and starting their own league. SNC had 6 ... count 'em ... six coaches / trainers / whatever behind the bench. The school simply wants success badly enough to support the program very well, and the results speak for the efforts.

Oswego played a great game as well, but simply made more mistakes than did SNC, and didn't capitalize when they had the chances.

In the long run, I'm unsure if perennially dominant teams (ala SNC, Norwich, Oswego & M'bury) help or hurt the future of D3, but this I do know, it was indeed a pleasure watching great teams play in person. Certainly heightens expectations for what is actually feasible at the D3 level.

PS - was a pleasure meeting Pete ... hope you had a safe trip home.
PSS - I love the big sheet ... really opens up the game.

Thanks for the kind words. Not all of those assistants are paid positions, however.

Re: 3/17/12 - Oswego vs St Norbert - St Patty's Day battle of the Green for NC!

Thought the rule was you can only have 5 team personnel behind the bench including trainers and equipment managers.

I wasn't commenting on that, just the implication SNC has that many paid staff.

As a fellow SNC fan, I know that you remeber we only graduated 2 seniors after the 2008 win... not trying to be negative, I just wanted to get that in there:)

Jones and Belanger were more than "only two seniors". Ryd, Jonette and Soley were all a huge part of this year's success but do not confuse them with Kyle Jones and Marc Belanger and the impact they had to get SNC over the top for their first Nat'l Championship.
