Back before it started hiring the Lara Logan's of the world, 60 Minutes delivered quality news and was one of the highest rated shows for decades. Now its a joke of course, but like the rest of journalism network execs think the E Channel crowd are the only people they need to target. The problem rests with the quality of the product first and foremost. That's why many of us turn to The Economist or NPR for news and analysis. There's nowhere else to go.
The old chicken and egg. Is news coverage is this country rubbish because that's what is in demand, or does the public want such stuff and the networks are merely providing what is wanted? Probably some of both.
