2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

Re: 2nd Term Part VII: You May Like Your Doctor But You Can't Keep Her

Just an FYI. They found the smoking gun and Christie had to spend two hours today explaining to the press how everyone lied to him. But, you continue to blame the messenger. After all, the press never gets it right, especially the left wing press.

He should have blamed a video nobody's ever seen or heard of.

NYT piece confirmed that that was part of the issue in Benghazi. All Rice ever said was that it was part of it, she never said it was all of it. Doesn't matter anyway, now the Bone Man wants more for Iraq. I'm trying to garner how much money is enough for these folks for these countries while our own crumbles. The amount of time and effort wasted on nothing Libya is staggering.

Does anyone else wonder about a load of lawsuits arising from this crap? I mean, if a family member of mine was in an ambulance in this gridlock and had some complications as a result, I'd sure want a piece of someone's hide. Hell, there might be thousands of working joes who had wages docked for being late to the job. Why shouldn't they be compensated? What an absolutely idiotic stunt.

I'd be a little more circumspect in uncritically invoking the Hillary Times' piece if I were you. You accept, equally uncritically, the Oblahblah nonsense that somehow the UN Ambassador, as opposed to the SecState was the one who should have gone out there and answered the questions. Presumably the SecAgriculture was unavailable.

Oblahblah (with your presumed support) ran in part on the notion of increasing American troops in Afghanistan. It was the good war, remember? We left Iraq without a Status of Forces Agreement and are h*ll bent on doing the same thing in Afghanistan. The resurgence of AQ in the Middle East is presumably Bush's fault. Certainly no blame can attach to the guy who's been in charge of American foreign policy for the last five years.

Aaah, yes, now the NYT is in the tank for Hillary.

Any other conspiracies you'd like to unveil?

As for Obama, he wanted to increase in Afghanistan pre-Osama capture. Now that Osama is dead we're done over there.

I saw a report that among the victims of the shutdown, it hampered a search for a missing child. Though the report never said what happened to the kid.

You're right. But some people sincerely believe that lifestyle is prohibited by their religion.

They should be better educated on what their religion actually espouses. I can't recall Jesus ever saying that gays were evil.... And before you throw out a quote from Leviticus, let me remind you it also says you shouldn't wear clothes of different threads, eat shellfish, get a tattoo or work on the Sabbath (among others).

So why are we staying till 2024?

Cause Lindsay Graham wants us there and everywhere. Frankly, I find it stupid that were over there at all.
Since when is Lindsay the commander in Chief?.

I've made that argument myself, many times (although Jesus was silent on the subject, there are some New Testament references). Scriptures have been used and abused for centuries to advocate or defend various evils. And that will presumably continue forever. Nevertheless, millions of Americans believe that homosexuality is a sin. And since they're free to believe that if they chose, what are we to do about it? Certainly silencing or punishing them, collectively or individually, is un-American. No, the answer, as the ACLU says, is not less speech, but more. Plus, a dab of the tolerance so many of us proclaim but rarely demonstrate wouldn't hurt.

Back in the days when Last Temptation of Christ was in theatres, conservative Christians worked themselves into a snit about the film. They organized protests outside theatres, letter writing campaigns and all the rest. They also wanted to pressure theatre owners to refuse to screen it. That's where I draw the line. They're free to try to convince me not to spend my money on the movie. But in the final analysis, I reserve the right to make that decision for myself. That's help I don't need.

As I have written here many times, censors customarily deny they're censors. They suggest instead that the matter at hand is unique and requires unique measures. So if a movie speculates about Jesus' sex life, or some (very rich) Louisiana clod shares his antiquated view of sexuality, both need to be punished and silenced. Because we aren't capable of deciding for ourselves what's bull sh*t and what's not.

I dunno. Do you believe in the Powell doctrine? You break it, you own it? Bush II sure didn't give a **** about it.

I do know one thing. Given the Republicans attitudes towards what Obama hasn't done in the Middle East we'd be even more entrenched over there with a Republican in office than we are with Obama.

And maybe AQ wouldn't have retaken Fallujah. The Field Marshall nearly did himself an injury patting himself on the back for taking out Bin Laden (and only mentioning at the margins the heroes who actually did it). He pranced around the WH like Hasso von Manteuffel. But the reality (as Robert Gates shows) is somewhat less glorious.

We should have boots on the ground in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya and Egypt...anywhere else?

A Republican would have gone boots-on-the-ground in Libya, I think. You'd have a hard time convincing me that it would have turned out better than Obama's strategy, although in terms of results on the Libyan side, it might not have turned out worse (but that would be a net negative between U.S. casualties and increased cost).

There would have been something done in Iran during the protests. I'd lean toward it accomplishing nothing and inflaming anti-American sentiment.

And we'd probably be up to our necks in Syria.

Obama hasn't been stellar over there, but I think the GOP would have been worse.

What a great bumper sticker: "We suck. But they suck more." That's in the same ball park with Edwin Edwards' bumper sticker in his race against David Duke: "Vote for the crook. It's important."

No. What we should do is declare "red lines," then deny we did it when some Muslim putz crosses them.
