Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

And so it begins.

Mississippi
Mississippi state Sen. Chris McDaniel announced Thursday afternoon that he will challenge six-term Sen. Thad Cochran, potentially setting up a dynamic and divisive GOP primary in the Magnolia State in 2014.

McDaniel kicks off his bid with support from several national conservative groups, including the Club for Growth, Senate Conservatives Fund and the Madison Project.

The seat is safely in GOP hands, but Cochran is still mum on whether he will seek re-election. He’s said he will make a decision by the end of the year. A longtime appropriator, Cochran has leveraged his seniority to bring home funds for decades.

Mississippi’s economy relies heavily on federal funds — thanks in part to the state’s high poverty level. A handful of Republicans noted last month that the delegation is young and the hope is that Cochran does not leave office until the younger members earn seniority in the House and Senate.

Dr. Milton Wolf Challenges Sen. Roberts: Tea Party Challenge To Establishment GOP Senators Growing
Principled limited government constitutional conservatives have slowly, but surely, begun to come forward to challenge establishment Republican Senators in the upcoming 2014 Republican primary elections.

The first was in Tennessee, where the principled limited government constitutional conservative grassroots expressed their displeasure with Senator Lamar Alexander by first forming BEAT LAMAR, and then finding their candidate, state Rep. Joe Carr of Lascassas, to take on the establishment GOP Senator in Tennessee’s hotly contested U.S. Senate Republican primary election.

Now Tea Partiers and limited government constitutional conservatives in Kansas have brought forward Dr. Milton Wolf, as their candidate to challenge establishment GOP Senator Pat Roberts.

Roberts is the longest-serving member of the Kansas delegation, with a congressional career that began in 1981 as representative for the First District of Kansas. He joined the Senate in 1997 according to a profile in The Daily Caller.

Dr. Wolf, who is a distant cousin of President Obama (really) is beginning his campaign by taking-up one of our favorite themes – we are the leaders we have been waiting for.

Wolf told The Daily Caller, “The reality is that the career politicians of both parties have failed us. That much is clear and you look around and you think, ‘Somebody has gotta do something,’ and I keep looking for somebody to do something, and no one is. I realized at one point that I’m somebody. I gotta do something. If I want to call myself an American, if I want to think of myself as a patriot, I have to step up.”
Uh oh. I know someone who won't like that.

Pat Roberts is a wacko. Not only did he vote against the bill last night, he argues that evolution is "just a theory" (like Gravity) and global climate change is a hoax. But apparently he has a touch of sanity, so the TPers are out to challenge him. Amazing.

No indication of that at all.

Mine has been going up every year for the last five years anyway... This is not a new trend. Every year my deductible gets a little higher and my premium goes up too.

Why are you amazed? Shouldn't you be rejoicing? They're going to nominate people you can mock and stigmatize. The problem for you and the rest of the chorale is as long as the TPers don't nominate people who "dabbled" in witchcraft or who have bizarre views on reproduction or destroy themselves in other ways, they have a chance of being elected. And that's what's got you concerned. Isn't it?

OK, I'll show (more of) my ignorance: what bizarre views on reproduction? Storkism?

Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

The Cook Report is behind a pay wall, but today they moved 14 races in favor of the Democrats. Their statement
“Mostly as a result of the damage House Republicans sustained during the 16-day government shutdown, we are making changes to our ratings in 15 House seats, all but one in Democrats' direction. Democrats still have a very uphill climb to a majority, and it's doubtful they can sustain this month's momentum for another year. But Republicans' actions have energized Democratic fundraising and recruiting efforts and handed Democrats a potentially effective message.”

--

“The GOP's brand has been awful for years, and sustained more damage this month. Yet the biggest boost for House Democrats isn't the downturn in the GOP's brand (NBC News/Wall Street Journal surveys showed negative views of the Republican Party surging from 44 percent in September to 53 percent in October). It's that the shutdown forced voters to actually focus on the House GOP as "the problem" in DC, something Democrats simply could not do amid the noise of the 2012 presidential election.”

What's his face in Missouri who claimed women had some biological way of preventing conception caused by rape. Storkism would be an improvement.

"Women have a way of shutting it down"

It's called the ballot box.

Predicting the outcome of races where there is no opposition candidate is not entirely reliable. But you only play your favorite tunes on the calliope. Lee Terry is a friend. He'll win easily. Wanna bet?

Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

Priceless --

The primary season is 6 - 8 months away. I've seen 90% approval ratings disappear faster. Most of this will be forgotten, and if PPACA is a ka ka around 11/14, then R's could do very well.

Things will change, but Cook moving that many races at once is noteworthy.

Nearly all large employers are passing more costs onto their employees. I wish it was just my company but it's not.

I know...just wanted people to know what you do so they understand you know what you are talking about :D

I work for a division of Toyota and my costs are nearly the same for next year (slightly less than 1% increase), and my coverage is getting better. So it certainly can be done if a company wants to work at it. And I have good coverage in a PPO (80/20 plan) with dental and vision coverage too.
