Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

I was hoping for more, but all we get is a repeat of some of OP's mediocre hits. Disappointing.

Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

Wow. Aside from you and the other ladies in the chorale, who gives a sh*t? There are certainly some nutjobs on the right, no question. And you're always right there to smear the majority of conservatives who aren't nutjobs with their excesses. Somehow, lefty nutjobs always escape your attention. Probably just a coincidence.

Meanwhile, a statement from the "Million Veterans March"

The political agenda put forth by a local organizer in Washington DC was not in alignment with our message. We feel disheartened that some would seek to hijack the narrative for political gain. The core principle is about all Americans honoring Veterans in a peaceful and apolitical manner. Feel free to check out the 60+ rallies of the Million Vet March across the nation at our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Million-Vet-March-on-the-Memorials/539097822833735.
--
We have, as a group, been prevented from certain groups that have piggy-backed off our grassroots efforts, to effectively create a comprehensive media message campaign. We made the mistake of trying to partner with some Washington insiders that thwarted many of our genuine concerns for keeping this apolitical and grassroots.

A few powerful Washington elites? I believe that would be Sens. Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, and the political extremists are Sarah Palin and the tea partiers. The “incite or create panic” line refers to those tea partiers who tore down the barricades at the WWII memorial and marched to the White House. The extremists waved the confederate flag in front of the White House and chanted things like impeach Obama.

I suspect that Cruz and Palin were not invited, and a Facebook account of their behavior for one vet who was there fits the description of using the event for political gain, “I was disappointed when Ms. Palin and Mr. Cruz walked up to us to say hello but then walked down to the center to try to use us for they’re own purpose so I left to visit the viet nam memorial ty Brats.”

Well done TPers.

You're right. The Confederate battle flag was never used as a symbol of violent opposition to the Civil Rights movement going on at the same time as Vietnam.

I see the confederate flag painted on the grills of Canadian trucks all the time, specifically from Quebec. Who cares, if a flag means so much, why aren't you guys livid when they burn the American flag??

Well half of my ancestors were kept as human chattel under that flag. If a bunch of Quebecois idiots and neo-confederates with no understanding or appreciation of the human misery that flag represents choose to fly it, well its an indictment of whatever political point they're trying to make. Its a flag that has been a symbol of repression of African Americans for over a century. Its a dog whistle of the worst sort.

Whose "you guys"? Its not just liberals who are ****ed at the current shape of the Republican party. And who says I'm not livid when "they" burn American flags?

Because it's their message that's being spoken, not one of which they're against.

It peeves me to see an American flag burned - I wouldn't do it - but it shouldn't be illegal.

It peeves me to see a Confederate flag displayed proudly - I wouldn't do it - but it also shouldn't be illegal.

Freedom of speech and all that.

Watch out, you're turning into one of those libertarian sociopaths. :p:D

Plus, isn't the burning of the flag officially how it is to be retired?

For those people who actually know about flag care, yet are still peeved at those who burn the flag in protest, it's all in the context of the act. I was a cub scout - a really bad one, and learned my flag care there.

Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

As a footnote, voters and/or anyone else also have the right to judge flag burners and neo-rebels by their actions and treat them accordingly.

Within the law (and voter's booth) of course.

Even if you try to claim that the Confederacy was no more or less racist than the Union (which, aside from the slavery aspect, might be a fair argument to make), that doesn't change the part where the Confederate flag has been adopted primarily by white supremacists in the 150 years since. It's not exactly a symbol associated with anything pleasant.

Whose "you guys"? Its not just liberals who are ****ed at the current shape of the Republican party. And who says I'm not livid when "they" burn American flags?
The first rule of being a highly defensive and insecure conservative is to accuse all liberals of hating everything about America. You know, like this:

Because it's their message that's being spoken, not one of which they're against.

I don't blame them or necessarily think that they're bad people. I think it's just an unfortunate consequence of having people like Ann "All Liberals Are Communists, And There's No Such Thing As A Moderate" Coulter or Ayn "Honestly, I Might Be the Anti-Christ" Rand as your personal heroes.

There's nothing to answer. Sorry, but Birtherism, Anti-Birth Control, Anti-Women's Health Care, Any Gun for Anyone at a Gun Show, Evolution Is the Devil's Work, Bat **** Crazy is just way more nuts to me than anything Code Pink does.

Forgot Global Warming Is a Liberal Hoax.

The Confederate Flag represents States' Rights the same as the Swastika represents rebuilding the German economy.

It does represent states' rights. States' rights to promote slave ownership and states' rights to commit treason against the union.

Re: 2nd Term, Part VI: Burnin' down the House

New polling data from ABC/WaPo

Do you approve or disapprove of the way _________ is/are handling negotiations over the federal budget?

Obama: 42/53
Democrats: 33/61
Republicans: 21/74

The most telling number from this poll is when they asked this of people who identified as Conservatives. The GOP Congress has only 37% support among its own base while 59% disapprove. Among liberals, the Congressional Democrats have a 50/48 split and President Obama a whopping 65/32. Among moderates, Obama has a 45/49 split while Democrats have 34/58. The GOP Congress has a dismal 15/80 split among moderates.

Not surprising. The demodog is licking its bone while watching the gopdog chase its teatard tail.
