2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck

Re: 2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck

I don't think this is true. The FF were worried about tyranny and non-responsiveness, but they weren't worried about the size of the federal government. That's a 20th century narrative.

Remember too that the Federalists argued for a national government to guard against the predations of local factions which otherwise would be oppressive by their domination of state and local governments. One of the selling points in the Federalist Papers is that a federal structure would cause the locally strong faction leaders in geographical and economic factions to check each other, thus serving the interests of the nation as a whole.

This is very true, and John Adams was certainly a proponent of this. However, as much as we talk about the size of government in terms of the number of departments today, I was referring to the size of the empire in terms of area and population covered and its associated central government system. The larger area you have to cover, the less efficient a central government will be, especially if you consider the top-down structure that will most likely be in place. No matter what technology does, there will always be limiting factors, and this is especially true with defence. If you've ever played the board game Risk, it's the exact same thing.

In Federalist 10 Madison talks about the reasons he thinks the larger the republic, the better. I'm sure there were anti-federalist counter-arguments but I am not aware of where to find them.

I don't know that governance efficiency is inversely correlated to the size of area/population covered...as there is a effectiveness component inherent in efficiency. If that were true, the Chinese government would not be productive. I would say small localized government may be more responsive to the needs of local individuals but cause headaches in trying to get things done on a larger scale. Although there are quite a few on the payroll in China, its government can change society nationwide overnight.

OK, let's say it's 1774 and the fastest it takes word to get from England to the American Colonies is three months. Sure, communication might be easier now, but let's also consider the movement of troops and equipment.

After the French and Indian War, they restricted colonists to the east side of the Appalachians for these very reasons.

So it turns out that some GLBT folks have have taken to supporting Memories Pizza, the shope owned by a close minded person/family.

Kris Cruz, a radio host and producer of “The Jeff Adams Show,” was the first person to flag Hoffman’s donation. He then contacted her through Facebook and she agreed to join them on the air Monday.

Cruz started with the “big question” — Why did she do it?

“My girlfriend and I are small business owners, and we think there is a difference between operating in a public market space and then attaching the name of your business to a private event,” she said. “Like, if we were asked to set up at an anti-gay marriage rally, I mean, we would have to decline.”

I like this woman. I'd never support Memoris Pizza, but this woman has a good head on her shoulders.

Also, the truly puzzling thing to all of this is why would a pizzeria announce anything about not catering any sort of wedding let along a gay wedding? Who the hell has a pizzeria cater a wedding? Do people really do that?

Evidently, people do.

That is a little weird. A redneck gay wedding perhaps???

Nah, a redneck wedding would be BBQ meats with some pork and beans, and some sort of a salad, preferrably made with Jell-O. Small-time gay mafiosas?

Maybe gay couch potatos who met when one delivered a pizza to the other one?

No, but it's a great way to stir up controversy and make a million dollars from the rubes.

On a related note, my restaurant will be opening soon. We plan to cater only to wealthy white Christians. I'm sure I'll get lambasted by the powerful allies of poor, colorful non-Christians so I'll have a gofundme site set up momentarily.

I was thinking along those lines, too, because there really isn't much to gain otherwise. Add to that, they weren't the ones to set up a gofundme account, that was another supporting bigot acting independently of the pizza shop. You run a great deal of risk, risk to your person, property and purely on the financial well-being when thinking about future sales, being the face of open bigotry. I just doesn't seem like a smart play from any perspective, when you think of it from a point in time prior to actually receiving the cash - if they actually receive it.

The trick is to hit and run, so you shouldn't have any bulky brick and mortar assets. Although the Mom and Pop optics are useful, the herpa-derps proved through Hobby Lobby and Chik fil A they'll throw their money to any entity symbolic of reactionary arglebargle, and the Echo Chamber will connect you to a virtually limitless pool of suckers. This is what makes Bigot Fishing so profitable -- there is an entire industry that will not just do your marketing for you, but might even pay you for the privilege. It also allows repeat business, because the first rule of the con is not to let the mark know he's been conned, but since they live in the hermetically sealed information bubble, they will literally never know.

Ideally you set up your own money gathering operation, "on behalf of" yourself, thus making sure the funding doesn't get farmed by a middle man. If you're really ambitious, you can set up a contrary funding source to pull in money against yourself, and then continually stoke the fire by leaking how much money those creeps on the other side have contributed.*

(* this is the basis of the two-party system)

My GoFundMe site is up and running. Please give generously.

If you tone that down just a little, I'll bet you can make some money. Seriously, put in a soft focus photo of a white wedding, change "fugdepackers," remove the heresy comment (too obvious, even for them), and throw in a couple verse citations: Leviticus 18:22, and 1 Corinthians 6:9 really say He Seems Nice about you know who.

I deleted it. Some schmuck will see "fudgepackers" and think it's serious, and it's tied to my actual account.

Maybe I'll do this again later with an anonymous account.

Yeah, definitely make it untraceable to you. God knows what some psycho might do.

I used to have an Obama bumper sticker and after nearly getting run off the road by herpa-derps twice within one week in my little 85% GOP, Rush-audience methneck town, I scrapped it. Oddly, my hasa diga eebowai bumper sticker hasn't generated the same reaction.
