Plus, how to balance a checkbook, credit, home budgeting, applying for a loan, installing a light switch, changing the oil, basic plumbing, etc. You know, all those necessary life skills they don't teach you in school.
Hey, maybe they'd have money to teach those things if conservatives stop cutting taxes and cutting education budgets!

Wasn't it created under Jimmy Carter?

DoE was only promoted to cabinet level under Carter. It was created in 1867, but for most of its history it was an office (like OMB).

The herpa-derps have been after it for decades for the usual reasons ("gol' durned gubmint!!11!")

Nothing to do with teaching methods?! What the hell do you think are in the teacher's guides for Common Core?!?!?!

I'll give you that every kid learns a different way. Having the background that I do, I understand what they're trying to do. There has to be SOME sort of "compromise" with older methods that has resulted in the worst of both worlds.

Good point. After all, I'm just a public school teacher in a state that has adopted the CCSS. How would I know whether or not teachers are free to use the teaching methods that work best for them and their particular population of students? I will bow to your superior understanding of my work environment, and accept that I must use only those approved methods published in the government teaching manuals that I have somehow never heard of. :D

The more of Flag' s drivel I read, the more I'm convinced it's an act. And a bad one, at that.

Regarding Common Core and No Child Left Behind - why do we need Federal involvement in education? Since DoE was formed, I don't think our education system or results have improved.

Common Core is a state led initiative, not a federal one. Just sayin'.

For a guy who lives in his mom's basement, doesn't have a job, and may or may not have a girlfriend, he seems to know a lot about subjects he'd have no actual experience with, be it the medical profession, the teaching profession, law, etc etc etc etc. That's usually the hallmark of an insane person...

Some of those they do teach, but they are reserved for "elective" courses, or in the Vampire State, the BOCES trade school.

Common Core is a state led initiative, not a federal one. Just sayin'.

Just like how the drinking age and the NMSL were "state led initiatives". Give it a little time, and the Feds will start docking funding to states for not implementing what they want.

Which is what you want, right? If you hate the federal govt, why would you want to be taking federal dollars?

Re: 2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck

So where are we talking about this Indiana debacle?

Just get the popcorn. It's been interesting to watch the bigoted but tourism-conscious GOP mayors face off against the bigoted GOP state leg members.

Please discover warp drive so these people have have their own Jesus planet, please. We already know the Muslims are headed for Arrakis (Iraq - IS).

And what would stop the "bigoted" from going to the next person and getting the same services? Nothing stops religious investors from investing in money-losing companies on the basis of morals; this is no different. We're talking about private establishments here. Indiana SB 101 specifically restricts public services from this, as it would constitute the government establishing a religion and/or abridging the free exercise thereof.

Re: 2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck

If you want to? Fine. It's about time the Constitution once again becomes a two way street.
Naw, that would require people to respect others rights. Not much interest in that anymore. Anyone not in lockstep will be hounded and harassed into submission. You vil comply.
