2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck

Re: 2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck

Actually if anything, it supports it. Remember that the job reports are partially based upon how many people have made new or returning jobless claims (as you have to file every week). "Job growth" would mean that less people are filing continued claims. One of the biggest assumptions being made is that the size of the work force remains the same, and I'm fairly certain it has diminished in that time. Also, private sector jobs would imply both part-time and full-time. How many of those would have multiple jobs associated with one worker?

Considering you just "guaranteed" that defendants brought up on federal charges after being exonerated at the state level would challenge it as double jeopardy, I'm going to take your assumptions with a huge grain of salt. Come back with some real numbers and we can talk.

Actually I'm not going to wait for you to come back with some BS numbers. Here are the figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

Private sector jobs December 2007: 115,974,000 (pre-recession high)
Private sector jobs February 2010: 107,173,000 (recession low)
Private sector jobs February 2015: 119,215,000 (current high)

Before you make assumptions and guarantee things, you may want to become better informed of the facts. Or ask those of us who know such things. I guarantee we'll help you out.

OK, oh all knowing wacko, how many jobs per person exist in said sector?

Irony alert.

I am not aware that a "jobs per person" statistic exists. A Google search yielded no results. There are approximately 320M people in the United States and 120M jobs, but I don't think that's what you mean.

I actually have a lot of problems with the ways unemployment is counted, but it's apparent that the economy has improved significantly on Obama's watch. How much his policies, as distinct from systemic forces, are to credit is a different question. The root problem is that the economy now operates according to the values, and for the benefit, of a tiny segment of the population. Until that is fixed most Americans will suffer. While the Democrats have been corrupted by that plutocracy, the Republicans wholehearted embrace it. That as much as anything else drives my vote every election: for the Democrats plutocracy is a bug; for the Republicans it's a feature.

Pretty much. Although are we sure Lincoln created the IRS, and not Woodrow Wilson, who was President when the 16th amendment was passed?

The IRS was founded July 9, 1953. Only a century off.

What the author refers to is the creation of a war tax by Lincoln to help fund the Civil War. Started in 1862, it was ended in 1872.

If we're going to choose the date the Republic died, I'd pick when the draft was instituted. That was Lincoln, too, IINM, so the herpa-derps can even keep clutching their butthurt about losing the Civil War. The other choices are when Terry stops were allowed by SCOTUS, which pretty much wrapped it up for warrants and privacy, and when the GWOT CF damaged habeas corpus.

3 things I'll work to undo when you elect the Bob Gray / Kepler ticket in 2016.

Remember, when a Republican is president the only number that matters is the U3 number. When a Democrat is president, suddenly the U6 number matters. (And oh, btw, the U6 number has dropped significantly too).

Yes, but VORP is at an all-time low.

So Bob looks presidential while you yield the hatchet?

If it's improved so much, why are more people on food stamps now than ever before?

Try again.

SNAP participation was 46,271,508 persons in November 2014, a decrease of 206,170 from October 2014. A larger decrease was seen over the year with 764,136 fewer persons participating, or 1.6 percent, from November 2013 to November 2014.
