2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Silly to think I have the magic bullet. But unless one of these parties figures out how to take control of the house in which they are a minority, they have to deal with each other. I've been involved in a lot of negotiations. Take it or leave it, name calling, refusing to engage in discussion regardless of how foolish you think the other side is are all time proven, sure fire methods of failure in the negotiation process.

I think you're missing the forest. The Dems in the House are willing to negotiate. They'd love to get something done. When Nancy was running the show she passed A LOT of legislation, and with a lot of bipartisan support. Some Republicans are willing to negotiate. The ones that won't are defying their own Speaker for an *** clown from the Senate (Ted Cruz). Which is basically the Bachmann (a.k.a. bat**** crazy) wing of the party.

Listening to these Republicans take credit for the shutdown sure makes it hard for people like walrus to "blame" it on Harry Reid...

What's funny is that when issues arise, you're more concerned about who is to blame. Of course, the huff-and-puffers on this board make Harry Reid look like a negotiator...

What should we talk about? The issues? Why? No one in Congress is.

Let's write a poem...

'Twas the night before shutdown
And all through DC
The Speaker was not speaking, not even Pelosi

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

The House is going to move for a conference with no stop-gap measure allowing temporary funding, so the government will shutdown at midnight.

President Obama just signed an executive order assuring the military will continue to be funded after the shutdown.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said late Monday that he wants the House to send a clean continuing resolution back to the Senate to fund the government.

“That will happen sooner or later,” McCain said. The Arizona Republican said his party “can’t win” if they continue down the current path.

McCain added that he thinks Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) does not expect the House to send another version of the CR back to the Senate late Monday night.

The CR was even already using the Ryan budget number. The Dems caved on spending and the Repubs still shut it down. The Repubs big idea last night was to take it to conference and offer the Dems made 6 months ago.

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Q's polling hardly leans Dem, but this is d@mning:

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/institute...titute/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=1958

"American voters oppose 72 - 22 percent Congress shutting down the federal government to block implementation of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today.

Voters also oppose 64 - 27 percent blocking an increase in the nation's debt ceiling as a way to stop Obamacare, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds."

Good strategy knucks.

I don't post often in here, but I feel I need to. My wife is a Head Start teacher and she just told me she got an email saying she could be laid off by the end of the week due to the shutdown. I know she'd get unemployment, but the reduction of income would hurt. This is just awful.

Sorry about your situation. This is what you get when you elect Republicans. Every freakin' time. Look at all the strife and devisiveness in any state they've taken over (WI, NC, MI, etc).

Whenever I see a poll like this, I become really curious about that 5-7%. I'm talking about the ones who say they oppose the Republicans stopping Obamacare by using the government shutdown as a threat, but if the Republicans want to stop it by holding the debt ceiling hostage, have at it???

There is a school of thought that the leverage is on the debt ceiling more than the govt shutdown. Crazy I know, but its time to suspend logic when trying to figure out what Teabagger terrorists will try to do.

People don't understand what the debt ceiling actually is. This is not surprising.

JOSH
So, if we're lucky, foreign aid's going to be funded for another 90 days at 75 cents on the dollar. No one who's ever said they wanted bipartisanship has ever meant it. But the people are speaking. Because 68% think we give too much in foreign aid, and 59% think it should be cut.

WILL
You like that stat?

JOSH
I do.

WILL
Why?

JOSH
Because 9% think it's too high, and shouldn't be cut! 9% of respondents could not fully get their arms around the question. There should be another box you can check for, "I have utterly no idea what you're talking about. Please, God, don't ask for my input."

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Good one.

They did. They're using your Bobo Ryan's budget number. Which does not put back the money from the sequester. A major dem initiative. It drives me nuts that when Dems cave righties pretend they got nothing. Fact is they've gotten just about everything they've wanted and more and they're still crying.
