Just curious.....has sequestration closed the Oval Office? Why does the Sun King deliver his missives from the East Room?

Oh hold on....East Room....Muslims face east to pray. Just sayin'

Cue the liberal heads exploding in 3.....2......1 :p

I never thought I'd say this, but I miss old style conservative campaigning. Back then you had to bring your A game. Nowadays its a bunch of Jerry Springer show refugees screeching "Muslim" every chance they get. Perhaps this is Lee Atwater's punishment for those Willie Horton ads as he watches all this unfold from his seat in hell. :D

California just raised the minimum wage to $10/hour.

Time Magazine has it that the parties are more stubborn than ever, and that a budget won't be passed at all because of it. Leaving aside which side is in the right, what's the worse that can realistically happen from a government shutdown? Should I be writing to people and telling them to forget about stopping Obamacare already? Or will this round have all the shock and awe of the over-hyped sequesterpocalypse?

Depends how much they exempt as "necessary" functions and how long it lasts. If social security and/or Medicare payments stop, it'll be a shiatstorm. Otherwise you're probably looking at a lot of unpaid vacations for the civilian workforce and missed payments for contractors and soldiers. Which will impact the economy but be hidden from view unless you're directly affected.

The debt ceiling fight is the bigger one as far as long term impact cause we only get to default once, and the consequences will spread thru the economy at light speed in the form of higher interest rates, market instability, etc.

Perhaps we'll soon learn the true costs of having a government of flailing lunatics.

Get ready for a ton of posturing. Both sides will of course blame the other, but I give Obama the edge, as the easiest thing (short term) is to just keep going into debt further and further. It's interesting that the CBO warning on where the debt is headed came out just as this fight heats up.

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Watch out for the stock market as the most immediate impact of a govt shutdown. Markets hate instability, and two sides digging in their heals, coupled with a looming debt ceiling fight, has the potential to cause the markets to plummet. If you recall a similar thing happened during the financial crisis. Bush's team requested the TARP, the House defeated it when Pelosi refused to go it alone with just Dem votes if the GOP didn't vote for it also. Markets crashed as a result, and a week later the whole thing passed with bipartisan support. I expect something similar to happen this time.

Gee, if only there had been some compromise where spending cuts were combined with modest tax increases to cut the deficit. Some sort of all encompassing bargain, if you will.

Obama has the edge because the tea party is made up of a bunch of lunatics.
