2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Gee, if only there had been some compromise where spending cuts were combined with modest tax increases to cut the deficit. Some sort of all encompassing bargain, if you will.

Obama has the edge because the tea party is made up of a bunch of lunatics.

This is The Boner's fault. He should have reigned in these people years ago. Instead of taking them at their word, he thought he could count on them to go along with a compromise deal at the end. Now he's finding out they'd rather screw him instead. Oh well, crybaby. No way out at this point...except...

I've seen this bandied about previously, but its all wrong. The notion that a group of renegade Republicans sides with the Dems to give them back control of the House. Like any Republican would do anything willingly to put Pelosi or even Hoyer in the Speaker's chair. Call Dan Brown, we've got a new idea for his next book as long as the Freemasons are involved somehow.

But, here's what might work. In order to stiffen The Boner up, say somebody like Peter King forms a faction of 20 likeminded righties. Basically a bunch of old timers who predate the Tea Party (the guy from Alaska, 90 year old Ralph Hall from TX, etc). They go public and say, if the House F's up the budget negotiations we're cutting our own deal with the Dems. Now for the first time in his impotent Speakership, Boner actually has some leverage over the lunatic fringe. Play ball his way, or watch the Dems drive the bus during budget/debt ceiling negotiations. Now, maybe the 'baggers call his bluff. Or maybe it doesn't get to that. Unless his brain is completely pickled from too much alcohol consumption, Boner has to know this is his last term as Speaker. He's completely useless when it comes to leading the people who put him in that spot. As a man with nothing to lose, he suddenly puts himself in a position of power and maybe, just maybe, gets something done in what has been the most dysfunctional House since the run up to the Civil War.

As appealing as a little independence would be for improving the functionality of Congress, are there 20 GOP members who could do something like this without a serious concern about getting primaried?

Not sure. It would have to be either 1) people with nothing to lose, as in older Congressmen looking to retire soon anyway, or 2) people firmly in place in their seats that a primary challenge wouldn't be viable.

So, again just to use him as an example, lets take Peter King. I wouldn't think he'd get turfed from the right given that he's not in a deep South district, he's in NY. With him on board, and all the Dems (admittedly not a sure thing), that's 201 votes. They'd need 217. Can they find 16 votes amongst pols soon to retire, or who represent more moderate districts? Perhaps but the key would be to target Republicans in Democratic states, such as CA or WA or NY. I would also think The Boner would secretly endorse this move as it does give him some leverage that he right now does not have.

I'm not sure that Republicans in Democrat states would necessarily be any safer. In many cases, I would expect them to be in very solidly GOP districts, that might not come anywhere close to reflecting the state as a whole.

My thinking is that there's a shorter bench in these states. If you cross the party line in Alabama or Texas, there's probably 100 local officeholders from your party looking to stab you in the back. Even in a gerrymandered California congressional district, there might not be as many people with the ability to step up, raise money, raise their profile, and handle the rigors of a primary campaign.

This veteran, understanding the mess that health care is falling into, refused to get hospital treatment for his illness. Obama had him shot and killed.

It's all about jobs.

House GOP Scoreboard: 42 Votes to Repeal Obamacare, 46 Abortion Bills, 113 Religion Bills, 36 Marriage Bills, 72 Gun Bills... 0 Jobs Bills

Let's be clear here. Are you talking about "shovel ready" jobs? Because Neville seemed to be a little confused on the subject. We spent around a trillion bucks to "create" a bunch of them. Then he said there's no such thing.

You know, with all this quality opposition I don't know if he can get that third term...

"No-class act by a bunch of overpaid, immature, arrogant, spoiled brats!" - Arizona Senator JohnMcCain

Not sure if he was talking about the Los Angeles Dodgers or the House of Representatives voting to repeal Obamacare yet again.

Neither. He was talking about the Democratically controlled Congress who passed Obamacare in the first place.

Re: 2nd Term Part 5: Big Brotha

Everyone now realizes that Obamacare is an unmitigated disaster that will have to be undone somehow before we can start making improvements in healthcare delivery. HOWEVER, it's also clear that trying to defund it in the house is a failed strategy as well. Even if it were defunded, Obama's clear preference is to jam it in the back door by any means necessary, regardless of how comfortable that is for his victims. He would probably get all excited if it WERE defunded, because that would give him the perfect excuse to go after the back door methods of Executive Orders. Only thing to do here is make sure his foreign handlers don't manage to get another one of their flunkies in the white house. (I know he thinks of himself as "THE ONE" and the self-proclaimed "Savior of the Planet" who can lower water levels and everything, but it should be fairly obvious he's deluding himself as to his powers)
