2nd Term Part 4: Donkeys, Elephants, and Porcupines

Re: 2nd Term Part 4: Donkeys, Elephants, and Porcupines

I wouldn't even chalk the IRS stuff up to people being stupid (or targeting knuckledragger groups). Simply put you had a flood of new organizations as a result of a Supreme Court ruling that you had to deal with while trying to comply with some vague rules governing their behavior. Small wonder there'd be some problems. Yes, they should have taken better care about the perception of who's getting the scrutiny but the overwhelming majority of these new organizations seem to be right leaning. To borrow Lynah's analogy, if you're arresting people for crimes in an ethnic neighborhood, its kinda hard to balance out who gets taken down to the station. As there are more conservative groups they'll get more reviews by the IRS.

As a side note, has anybody noticed that every Old Pio post either mentions dicks or somebody getting cornholed. Hey Opie, are you trying to tell us something? :D

So we get equal protection under the laws YOU think are more important, but not others, and, shockingly, the ones you think are less important just happen to have been used against groups you disagree with. What are the odds of that?
Truly a shocking turn of events!

Former GOP Senators are all over the current generation of Republicans.

John Warner 'Concerned' About Republican Party's 'Competitive Strength'

Meanwhile Bob Dole has some words for them as well:

Reagan wouldn't fit in today's GOP

And if a third party started, not in the middle, but to the left of the Dems and proposed even more economic equality would you be concerned about the strength of the blue party? People aren't being steered by political rhetoric and choosing the blue party...any party is only as strong as where 51% of the voting public would stand. Would 51% stand for Tea Party ideas? Clearly not. In the future, they won't stand for current blue party ideas either.

Show a left leaning organization that had to face anywhere near the level of scrutiny and you might have a case. I figured at least one would have come forward or been shown by now to try and say this wasn't such a bad thing and really was random. It hasn't happened to my knowledge. This obviously goes way beyond the perception of groups getting hammered. There is documented proof and many lawsuits in the works. Just the level of outrage building on the left is also a sign something is majorly wrong.

Regardless of alleged discrimination, it's obvious that their are too many rules, loopholes, and categories. Here's my idea - if your organization donates one dime to any political campaign, whether that's in the form of direct monetary contributions, or less direct - buying ad spots to try and sway votes, or paying for dinners that major perspective donors are invited to - you should not be permitted to apply for tax-exempt status. Period.

If you want to be tax-exempt, then you should not be able to use your organization as a front or shell for spending money on specific candidates or proposals.

Saying they should hang a sign on RNC HQ saying "Closed For Repairs" seems like a bit more than concern over the Tea Party.

I 100% agree with this*.

*with the unstated, but implicit, caveat that these rules would be applied equally to all groups applying for tax exempt status.

Nah. It's just "bad customer service."

Re: 2nd Term Part 4: Donkeys, Elephants, and Porcupines

I thought this was The Onion. Nope.

On Tuesday, the Tea Party website ‘Tea Party Nation’ put out an article that labeled Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) an “illegal immigrant” because he had sneaked into Syria to visit rebels fighting against the Bashar al-Assad regime. Although the White House was aware of McCain’s Syrian visit, the article indicated that his visit was virtually the same as undocumented immigration. It also noted that McCain’s humanitarian support for rebels could be attributed to his lack of intelligence, and Democratic turnout for his unsurprising win in the Arizona Senate race.

Wow.

I believe Priceless answered your question so nothing more needs to be said. I'm curious if you'll revise your stance now that you've been made aware of left leaning groups being targeted too.

Saying they should hang a sign on RNC HQ saying "Closed For Repairs" seems like a bit more than concern over the Tea Party.

So I'm listening to Knuckledragger Radio on my way home tonight, and they're actually taking pot shots at Bob Dole. Bob Dole, a man who spent his entire adult life without the use of one arm due to his service in WWII is now apparently a flaming liberal and an object of scorn. I have to ask how some of you conservatives live with yourselves? If Warner, Dole, Snowe, etc all don't belong in your party, really who's going to left except for a bunch of bitter old cranks who have nothing better to do but whine all day?

The Queen of Whack-a-Doodle will not seek reelection...if she keeps her word.

Uh huh...;)

Yeah, the old "not because of the ethics investigation" claim is oft-used but rarely believed. If the follow the money adage is true, then they found the issue by following the money and her decision may have more to do with the disposition of any remaining money in her campaign or PAC accounts than it does with her desire to be in office or "spend more time with the family".

In ethics violation terms...paying a person out of the wrong fund is pretty tame compared tow hat some politicians do to get in the ethics cross-hairs. But as my dad used to say, "you can't be a little bit honest".
