22-23 USCHO Poll

I suppose I should be disappointed that Minnesota played two grade A games against a worthy opponent, winning both, and yet dropped in the poll.

But I am not.

4? 5? 6? All of those seem fair.

You get your wish, MBTC. The Gophers swept St. Cloud by scores of 6-0 and 9-0 and in so doing nudged their ranking up one to No. 5, displacing Colgate which dropped one to No. 6. More broadly no team moved up or down by more than one spot, making this week's pole the most stable of the season.

If you think a win, any win, is better than a loss, there are other directions to go. TTT's Grant ratings have the Badgers on top, because of margin of victory. KRACH and the PWR aren't as fond.

Overall, I think that the WCHA teams aren't going to be happy come March when the brackets are announced. Teams like Wisconsin and Minnesota let games get away, and with how few times they play other leagues, they can't afford that.

Blowouts are a lot of fun for the fan, but at the end of the day yes a win is all you want.

As I stated in the UW thread, of the 16 games WI has left, 10 are against teams ranked in the top 8. Those results will crystalize the the top WCHA teams in the PWR rankings.

Actually I caught an error in what USCHO had originally posted. They had the Gophers LOSING their first game to St. Cloud by a 0-6 score. But of course the result of that game was 6-0 in the Gophers' favor. I let the good folks at USCHO know and they corrected the score the next morning. But I do not know if the original error had or will have any bearing on the Gopher's position in the PairWise rankings.
