2026 Winter Olympics

Starting to seem like Canada is intentionally targeting Murphy.

Trying to get her to do something stupid? If not today then poking the bear so she melts down in the gold medal game?

She's been playing fantastic and I hope she keeps her composure if that's what they're doing.

Also... checking is allowed if you're going for the puck.

How was Simms' hit a penalty then? Puck was right there.

I think it was just Canada's turn for a PP after USA had 4.

She did have a pretty good acting job on the penalty in the first though.

This Olympic DVR thing isn't working so good. It's recording every single event on the USA channel. Lots of deleting and partial recording of events.

Looking for smart writeups on both US and Canada. What do you think is going on? First the obvious, just tons of credit to the US. But what would you call out?

Ideas:
1- the best ability is availability. Knock wood but Knight is an iron woman
2- best Americans seem to go to 2 high schools and 2, maybe 3 universities
3- mark Johnson. Oy. Even when Wisconsin “struggled” from 2012 to 2018, the USA Team that won 5 straight worlds in that same time frame and an Olympics was Wisconsin heavy.
4- cut cut cut. No one is safe. Carpenter getting disappeared from the 2018 Olympics? Taking away the C and even A from Coyne? Hungry group.
5- size. My God! Edwards highlight was her goal yesterday, but there was another play where O’Neill ran into her and it was no contest. The US has to have the biggest group by far.
6- in a league of their own as far as offensive minded D. Not even close.

I just threw up in my mouth.
So far the games for the US have been like playing in a U19 tournament. The competition is so weak that it’s embarrassing.
It’s not saying much for the future of the Women’s game and the thought of the PWHL expanding by 4 teams is very troubling…the talent is not there. Numbers yes, talent NO. It’s just like adding “D1” womens teams… so many are “D1” in name only…. That fact is undeniable.
The expansion is only fueled by the league ownership and the money making potential. There is no worry about the talent level on the ice as long as the seats are being filled and they will be. So in that regard it’s a success, sustainable if the product diminishes I’m not so sure.
The quarter final Olympic Games will be blowouts…. No way it’s not Canada / US in the Gold Medal game and Canada continues their year long woes against the United States.

I remember both 2002 and, to a lesser extent, 2014 too well to ever write Canada off when it seems like they are done. Yes, they look similar to the US of 2006 right now, but if they suddenly get better goaltending, a lot can change. The US has had the advantage in net this year, and that allows the team to play with confidence. If they ever fall behind, that confidence could disappear quickly.

Starting with 2026 Worlds the Women's format will be changing to two balanced groups from the current format that sees all of group A move on to the next round. Curious what people think about that change?

Yes. Canada may make us all look silly and wrobo has a quote saying they need to come down the mountain, hardest part is getting down, getting home.

But. Canada seemed more like a European or Asian opponent yesterday! I am setting off alarm bells lol. It’s not supposed to look like that!

If you like 16-0 games (which happened the last time they used this format), it's just dandy... 🫣
