2026 Winter Olympics: Thread Title Under Construction

I’m getting all my gloating out now because I’m going to be in Canada in two weeks. But goddamnit am I going to have a sly smile that whole week.

Its the epitome of being in Trump's orbit. Or more accurately, the epitome of how Trump tries to interject himself into everyone else's orbit.

...

All this is a very long winded way to say: Kash Patel is simply a "Pick Me" and just wants to be loved and rub elbows with people he never would get an invite from normally.

Aka, jock-sniffing.

Speaking as the resident Piss in America's Cheerios keyboard warrior, I loved the US win and it's not tarnished at all by the GOP fucktard presence.

Watching on CBC helped a lot since the gag reflex for network knobslobbery put the ten ton weight against Canada for once. I'm sure had I watched on Peacock I'd have been balls out against the US.

3x3 sucks, but watching McDavid play it almost redeems it. There was nobody else on the ice playing hockey when he had the puck -- it was just him and 5 pylons.

The winning goal was excellent.

Now we can stop bloviating about 1980. Maybe 9/11 will be next.

Hockey team getting crushed on Social media, Kash in locker room and apparently a call from Taco. They are all 1%ers so not shocking. This win is nothing compared to 1980.

Nothing will, that world doesn’t exist anymore. There’s no Cold War split, there isn’t a professional team masquerading as amateurs because all the professionals play, and the US has developed to a point where we now own 5/7 titles on the men’s and women’s sides.

But if this team is gonna get hammered for being MAGA, then it should probably be remembered that the 1980 team showed up to a Trump rally in 2020.

Of course they did. But, still to this day, no one has been able to effectively explain to me what appeals to them about the Orange God. I do not get it. even Bill Maher fell under his spell.

Don't meet your heroes. And now in social media we pretty much get to meet all of them. Another thing ruined.

For the 1980 haters- it would have been almost as big had they beaten a group of NHLers from Canada. Especially had they played together for over a decade.

But the crazy thing now is how the orange menace worshipers forget that people he admires now were part of the Soviet system that made the win that much sweeter.

I'm just so disillusioned over the win after seeing that video. They fucking ruin everything!! Patel had no business being in that locker room. At the after party - sure. I can live with that. Not happy with that but if he was to be anywhere, that's where it makes the most sense. But the locker room? That was their celebration time as a team and he had to glom onto that. And I'm sick to my stomach that he was wearing one of the medals. The coaches don't even get a medal. And I hope whoever gives Trump a medal to wear whenever they see him (*cough* Matthew Tkachuck *cough) is fine with never getting it back. Because they won't.

And please please please let the women's team say Nah, we're good. And don't these guys have, you know, JOBS??? NHL play starts on Wednesday.

Saw a new twist on excuses. That 3-3 is a talent neutralizer. Maybe I see the game wrong, but I see 3-3 as a talent highlighter. Canada easily had the best three players to win the game with celebrini, macinnon, and mcjesus. Can’t really argue that J Hughes and Werenski are better than that. They just played better enough to get the best chance to win.

I saw Cooper's quote about the 3 on 3. That drives me nuts. I'm not a fan of it either but those are the rules of the game. If you don't like it, either work to get it changed or do everything you can to avoid having to play in it. It's not like they didn't have multiple opportunities to win, including a 5 on 3.
