2026 Frozen Four

Here’s the bracket. Penn State with a path to the frozen four at home not having to go thru the wcha. Mercyhurst had that opportunity once and got Captain Canada’ed if I am remembering right? Woof. Good luck!

OSU may need to face UMD. I thought that was scary last year; OSU dismantled them after everyone said UMd is not scary. But the Badgers didn’t want UMD this year?

Minnesota vs NU. Hmm what say the crowd? I will have to go look and see who NU has beat this year. Minnesota, pull yourselves together and act like Minnesota! (If you want to win). Off the cuff, Minnesota should be more battle tested and has Murphy. For God sake should not be that hard.

Franklin Pierce, enjoy LaBahn. We need a NEWHA poster on the board. Not gonna lie, I’m seeing some Quinnipiac hype lately.

Next up, to figure out where these games are broadcast.

The three Thursday games already show on the "upcoming" schedule at ESPN-Plus.

I think I saw somewhere this AM that everything through the semi-finals (!?!) are ESPN-Plus only.

When you're watching Princeton vs UConn on Thursday, and you hear the name of the Princeton coach, Courtney Kessel, and (maybe it's just a Madison and Minnesota thing) if you think to yourself "Kessel?", I already looked it up for you.

Courtney Birchard-Kessel is married to Blake Kessel, of the Madison hockey Kessel family. Blake is the brother of NHL Stanley Cup winner Phil Kessel, and of Patty Kaz winner Amanda Kessel. Phil and Amanda both played at Minnesota (despite being from just outside Madison), while Blake and wife Courtney both played at New Hampshire. Courtney herself was a Patty Kaz top ten in 2010.

Tessa Janecke is every bit as good as anyone playing in the WCHA this season. Her role on Team USA is proof of that. Playing on Wisconsin, her numbers would be O'Brienesque.

Whether that makes her a "generational" player is semantics. But she's the real deal.
She is an a great talent and her stats were the best of Penn State's player in their series against Ohio State. But she can't carry the entire team and a team of Ohio State's level can shut her down. Now I don't know if UConn or Princeton has the talent and ability to contain her but that will be the key for whoever advanced to play Penn State.

Umd goes down. Not even the WCHA goalie of the Year could save them. Very interesting game coming up for Yale. Shots were even.
I was at the game and Yale's style of play is different from what we usually see in the WCHA. No disrespect meant to Yale but I feel Ohio State won't have much trouble with them. We're much faster on the ice.

I want to comment more on the differences I see between how Yale and Ohio State play the game. Ohio State gets the puck into the offensive end with crisp passing and speed along with dump & chase. I didn't see a lot of speed out of Yale but they try to go on offense by flipping the puck down ice and try to get to it.
Ohio State on the power play will work and cycle the puck to create a shooting opportunity. Yale seemed to want to just take quick shots and not work the puck to wear down their opponent.
We'll see how there two different styles match up Saturday.

Their styles may be a bit different. I've seen Yale play various strategies this year probably depending on the opponent and situation, as well.

A few years ago in the tournament it was 2-1 Ohio State vs Yale and so pretty close.... I haven't streamed as much WCHA play this year as other recent years, but the WCHA teams' inter-conference record was even a little better than usual.

Let's go YYYAAAALLLLEEEEE!

It hadn't dawned on me until it was pointed out in something I read, but the three teams that won last night - UConn, Yale, Quinnipiac - are all located in the state of Connecticut.
And the oft-maligned HEA has the best winning percentage thus far in the tourney. Meanwhile, the WCHA is down there with NEWHA.

makes sense when 1,2,3/4, all WCHA Teams, got byes in the first round...for a good reason. Duluth has been susceptible all season to mid level teams so no surprise there. at the end of the day it will be wisco and tosu as much as i personally dont like it...they are just that good...everyone else is there for the t-shirt.
