2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

Update on the Alaska Primary Election:

All the races I mentioned have stayed the same. Turnout was pretty high for a primary election so take that for what it is.

The Governor race is getting interesting as the two leading Democratic candidates are discussing having one of them dropout. There’s also possibility that they could join campaigns with the one becoming the Lieutenant Governor nominee for the other. It’s a sound strategy to clear up the field. Meanwhile the two leaders Republican candidates are saying that they want to do the same thing but nobody can agree on who should drop out.

Hopefully the Democrats can come to an agreement and win the state and help out the Senate candidate at the same time.

In all honesty, Mary probably doesn’t need any help from either one of them. She’s a beast in her own right.

I think the two Dems just need to merge their campaigns. I will give JKT credit, he’s run a fantastic campaign building name recognition and building himself as the younger (he’s 37 and would be Alaska’s youngest Governor if he won), “voice of change” guy. But there’s also a lot of apprehension about his Anthropic donors among the likely voters he needs to win. Merging with Tom Begich, who’s really a general milquetoast Alaskan Dem, would probably help against that.

On another note, if you want a glimpse of what the national Republican Party will look like post-Dump then look at the Alaska Republican Party and the Governor's race. The current Governor won't get behind a successor and, since the party ideology demands fealty to the leader, nobody will step out against to differentiate themselves. So all you're left with is 12 different candidates, a wonderful mix of Commissioners in the current admin, cronies of construction contractors, and right-wing bloggers, all trying to out conservative one another while being too egotistical and stubborn to work together for a common goal and completely cannibalizing each other's chances.

My favorite is Matt Heilala who spent $1million of his own money for... 2.5% of the vote.
 
That's going to be interesting. If you can prove a guy ran just to fuck with the results... well... that kinda is election interference.

But how on earth do you prove it? Other than a verified and admitted public recording of the guy saying "I am running just to fuck with the results."

I think he skates.

I wonder if i'm the only one old enough on this board to remember the Eddie Murphy film where he did exactly that. Ran for congress since his name was the same as the regular congressman.

I doubt that they can find a grand jury anywhere in Alaska to bring charges up.

Usually I find DINO and RINO to be overused, but she's a DINO.

Praised Trump and tried to sue Whitmer during Covid, was the only one to vote against abortion, walked out with Republicans during the end of the 2024 session to run out the clock, and then basically didn't show up to work in 2025, missing 85% of votes.
