2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

It's funny because the Democrats were able to get rid of Franken but failed to offer a public option for Obamacare. It's funny because Susan Collins and Joe Manchin are still considered moderates. It's funny because Fetterman votes with Democrats 90%+ of the time but never votes with them when it really matters.

How moderate was Manchin, or Synema, or Collins and what did they accomplish? Both caved to the right in such extremes as to destroy the country. I keep remembering that the EPA was created under Nixon. It all ended in 1980.

If he is trying to start a third “moderate” party, I would suggest that will fail as a third party has never really worked.

What do you think Manchin / Synema did that destroyed the country?

As to Collins - I believe there was a time she was more moderate but has largely caved in that in the past several years.

You may remember the other moderate Maine senator (Olympia Snow) actually decided to step away citing the extreme polarization as a primary reason.

They're moving to the extreme because they didn't get anything done. They didn't get anything done because of Manchin and Synema. See it all flows.

In hindsight, driving Franklin out was certainly a mistake although at the time seemed appropriate especially given the timing and the me too movement.

I fully support the public option in Obama care. I’d have to look back on the circumstances on why we were not able to get it through probably because we never had a full of muster proof majority. But, that also doesn’t necessarily be meaning that we should just be going for a single payer system now.

Well, the only way we would’ve gotten anything through was to eliminate the filibuster. So I don’t really see it that way. Do you want to eliminate the filibuster? That probably sounds great when your side is in the majority… But how would you feel about it now the Democrats are in the minority?

No, the bill that was Blocked by Manchin and Synema was already filibuster proof. reconciliation bill does not required more than 51.

I’ll have to do my own reading on that too for my real opinion… Can’t say I remember the specifics.

Either way, I don’t think that not having the public option has destroyed The Country…

And I think we should all be thankful that they did not vote along with Schumer to kill the filibuster.
 
New poll says 46% of Democrats think they need to change their party, while only 25% of Republicans think the same.

Poll also says that 27% of Dems fight corruption, 27% of Republicans, and the rest think none of them.

I admire all of you who are hopeful at all.
 
I know primary polling can be inconsistent, but two weeks ago the Detroit News had Stevens +7, now Emerson and a Lansing news station just came out with El Sayed +15. It’s also got education of HS or less at only 10% of the survey sample, which seems low.

Yard sign game certainly points to El Sayed, but we’ve had ten years of knowing that signs and rallies don’t win.

I get that for those on the far left or far right it is hard for people to understand more moderate or nuanced positions. But I suppose when MAGA friends of mine think I’m on the Looney left and at the same time further left friends of mine think I’m cause I Maga maybe I’m in the right spot.

I also refuse to believe all is lost but if the reaction to debate or discussion is to just put people on ignore, perhaps you are correct.

What you want is Republican, just without all the nastiness and racist shit.

On what topic? Surely on any given issue you should be able to envision a position somewhere between the far left and far right?

Immigration for example - is there really nothing you can picture in between "zero borders, 100% amnesty" and "masked undercover agents murdering citizens"?
 
Josh Turek was just interviewed on CNN. Unfortunately I don’t think he has much of a chance in Iowa but my first impression is that he seems like the type that the country needs more of.
