2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

Don’t know what that was .. did not see it. Everything I listed is on the DSA website (assuming what I am reading is their official website)
The inherent problem is (and no one can explain it) that nothing DSA is saying is any more radical than Project 2025. No one cared about that, but everyone seems to care about everything DSA is saying.

It's almost like the electorate is programmed in a distinct way.

Dunno… I didn’t like project 2025 either.

I have a choice between:

1. Another milquetoast AIPAC-funded Assistant Republican who wants to keep funding endless genocidal warfare and offering zero solutions on housing or healthcare, while lamely campaigning on "I'm a woman and not MAGA"

2. A guy who supports universal healthcare, but whose big scary 'problem' is that he also probably supports not hiring anymore terror squads of angry needledicks and giving them an ICE badge

So no, I don't really have a choice, platforms be damned.

LOL No, no they wouldn't. There are already a shortage of candidates so they'll take what they can get unless the community has serious problems with them. And then even then...
We can't hire smarter cops, as there is a valid concern that brighter candidates would quickly be bored with routine police work, and would soon quit the force.

That's literally the reasoning that the courts have agreed with for the last 30 years. And OK, sure, perhaps given their rigid rank/seniority system, it isn't unreasonable to expect that a smarter-than-average candidate wouldn't be thrilled with spending the first few years of their career patrolling the graveyard shift and writing traffic tickets, and would be more likely to quit. Though it is awfully convenient that this also eliminates the candidates who are more likely to question any orders they're given or have opinions about how to improve things, eh?

Surely though, we can do better candidate screening and improve required police training so that their first action during a situation that they themselves have typically escalated isn't to reach for their service weapon and fire away.

Yeah, I get it. I am trying to figure out the Senate Race here and Flanagan appears to be my only choice. The other one is a Democrat but is AIPAC funded AND a Manchin Fetterman type.

And then the other seat will have to be filled after Klobuchar becomes Governor. So, both Senators from Minnesota will be freshman. Why did we punt Franken again?

Why did we punt Franken again?
Because he raped children. No, that was someone else. Oh, I remember... because he's a sex trafficker. No, that's not it. Hold on, it will come to me. Oh, because he bragged about sexually assaulting women. No... Oh right, he sent masked thugs into our neighborhoods to terrorize the population and occasionally kill people. No, that doesn't sound right.

Give me a minute. I'll remember...

At least you’re guys’ races hasn’t descended into a farce already. Here’s a quick summary of Alaska’s Senate race:

Mary Peltola: Dan Sullivan enriched himself with probably illegal stock trades, took money from outside fishing trawler companies, supported the tariffs and the Iran war that are driving up prices.

Dan Sullivan: Mary Peltola doesn’t support veterans! I was a Marine! I support veterans! I WAS A MARINE!

Seriously, that’s the race right now. Sullivan’s latest ad is about how he helped a disabled veteran get treatment in Alaska instead of having to go to Seattle. That’s it. That’s the ad.

Yikes.

My late grandfather who was a Marine would spin in his grave if he knew this guy was harping on his time in the Corps as a huge qualification for office.

Is the other Dan Sullivan also running still?

The Marines of the 50-70s pretty much hate the Marines since then. The whole idea was to be John Wayne. STFU and do your job.
In my experience anyone who was in the Marine Corp basically makes it their entire personality. "There's no such thing as a 'former' Marine" is probably one of the most unhealthy things.

Yes I knew tons of these guys at work.

They are amazing in certain contexts and poison in almost all others.

They really are red shirts. Proudly and self-avowedly. "No offense." / "None taken." They are the closest we have to ISIS suicide bombers. Their enormous egotism is their entire ego is sublimated to the mission. It's a useful cult.

Small update: Dan Sullivan has a new ad out that is mostly boilerplate “I’m fighting to lower costs. I’m fighting for families” (without anything specific of course) but ends with him looking directly into the camera and asking for donations.

Which is wild for a two term incumbent Senator.
