I think Syracuse was intending to compete when they hired Paul Flanagan, after making a run at Shannon Miller. Who know what budget the program has overall. However, back in the day, Maine was known for being very skimpy on program resources. It could be vastly different now, but I tend to doubt it. It has been able to attract some higher-end international players, so maybe there are more dollars available than in the Maria Lewis days.
