2025 Conference Tournament Mega-Thread

Makes a Hell of a lot more sense than gifting AQ's.

The larger body of work ought to carry more weight, don't you agree?
I agree that the regular season is more meaningful than a 3-4 game single elimination tournament, so I would be fine with awarding AQs to regular season conference champs.

After 130 minutes of hockey, UWEC defeats Point on a penalty shot (right call - and I actually think EC probably scored on the play that led to it) to advance to face River Falls in the WIAC final.
They did not score on the scramble that led to the penalty shot. The puck made it to the goalline, but never actually even made contact with the line much less completely cross it.

You must’ve had a great seat...

Right on. Is the WIAC still using goal judges or is it a Steven Point thing?

All schools in the WIAC are required to have goal judges. I've been doing this for about 25 years. I also use to on ice referee until "real life" got in the way.

Just as we all predicted, it will be #8 MCLA @ #4 Fitchburg in the MASCAC title game

MCLA, number 80 out of 86 in the NPI, is one game away from the NCAA tournament

Yup.

And isn't that a perfect indictment of the ridiculous conference-tourny AQ idiocy?

Have you seen the Sunbelt Hoops bracket? That is one insane way of conducting a tournament!!

Imagine a 10 team bracket All at one site
Round 1 Gm 1 7 v 10 Gm 2 8 v 9
Round 2 Gm 3 5 v Winner Gm 2 Gm 4 6 v Winner Gm 1
Round 3 Gm 5 3 v Winner Gm 4 Gm 6 4 v Winner Gm 3
Round 4 Gm 7 1 v winner Gm 6 Gm 8 2 v Winner Gm 5
Round 5 Gm 9 winner Gm 7 v Winner Gm 8

Just trying to understand it, but are you saying it’s better just to do away with AQ entirely? Or should conferences give AQ to the best overall record/most points at the end of the season?

Don't poke the bear. We've been putting up with his insanity for years (though, to be fair, he has been very consistent). We don't interact with him anymore.

A happy medium re:AQs would be to require at least 8 teams for a conference to receive an AQ bid.
Yes I am sure that would fly with Utica and Geneseo. Two teams who are always in the top 10 waiting on bids while Fitchburg State and Gustavus get a freebie.
