2025-26 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State takes game one by a score of 3-0, on third period goals from Katelyn Roberts and Danica Maynard. Shots on goal were 35-18 for Penn State, and penalties were 1 each. That's four shutouts in seven games for Penn State.

Game two with Mercyhurst today, and it's an early one (1:00 Eastern), so get your honey-do list finished. As with all Penn State home games, this one is streaming on BTN+ (no BloHockey, thankfully).

Mercyhurst had its hands full yesterday with what's becoming a signature 60-minute forecheck from Penn State, and hopefully it's more of the same today. Yesterday's game got very physical, and the refs let a lot of it go. We'll see if they call it the same way today. Jeff Kampersal had a lot to say to them during the handshakes at the end of the game.

Seven games in the books and a freshman defender (Danica Maynard) leads the team in points - who saw that coming? Of course, it's always great to see a freshman come into D-1 and just get right to it. I like freshman forward Matilde Fantin, too. She's got three goals and three assists in seven games, which isn't superstar status or anything, but man...she's not afraid of anyone, and she hits like a freight train (which has her leading in penalties, but...). She's a nice surprise coming out of Italy.

I definitely see some different things being run by Penn State, that's new and I am sure it's confusing for other teams. Sisti is getting some of his own medicine. However, for half the game the scoring was sparse and Mercyhurst is not to be taken lightly. I'm still waiting for a shutdown line to throw out there to play against anyone's top line. Every girl does not have to play the same way to be a success.

I think that would happen by moving Maddy Christian or Grace Outwater up to the top line with Tessa Janecke and Katelyn Roberts...or maybe even moving them both up with Tessa Janecke and moving Roberts down to another line.

After one, Penn State is up 3-0 on goals from Grace Outwater, Katelyn Roberts, and Maddy Christian. Shots on goal are 8-3 for Penn State, and Mercyhurst took one penalty to Penn State's two. It looks like a repeat of yesterday, but Mercyhurst did look better in that first period than they did yesterday.

Still 3-0 after two periods. Shots on goal are 20-9 for Penn State, and penalties are 4 and 4 now. Mercyhurst changed goalies after the first period. This game is every bit as physical as yesterday...no love lost between these two teams, for sure.

Penn State sweeps Mercyhurst by a score of 6-1, on third period goals from Tessa Janecke, Grace Outwater, and Mikah Keller. Shots on goal were 33-17 for Penn State, and penalties were 7 for Penn State and 6 for Mercyhurst. This series was rough...lots of physical play, including a 10-minute game misconduct for Mercyhurst's Sophie McKinley for head contact. Penn State moves to 8-0-0 on the season, and was 31 seconds from another shutout.
