2025-2026 Little East

Kreitzburg is the best d3 venue in New England (sorry middlebury fans) and playing in front of their top 5 crowd is far better than beating up st michaels at home with 200 fans

Middlebury is an awesome rink. I've seen it jam packed too, which it hasn't been in over a decade. It was pretty freaking cool to see that place packed to the gills and a huge student section. It's just a little bit "stale" with the banner setup in comparison to how Norwich does it at Kreitzberg. The press box at Middlebury is unmatched though.

ok better call Levy and get the Oz PB updated....Hope alls well Prez....

New England College beats Curry….. only a scrimmage, but still an eye opener. Little East shown zero respect in the pre season polls. Get ready!!
Who do you expect to be ranked. Norwich Babson PSU are coming off poor seasons by their own standards. The rest of the conference is weak.

UMass Boston is also has a talented team this year. Going to be a good year for the Little East. Right out of the gate, Plymouth plays UNE and then onto Plattsburgh. Norwich plays Curry. Should she’d some light on how legit conference is….

Agree that the LEC is going to make some waves as a new hockey conference. Besides the top 3, I feel like we're going to see some former NEHC teams like UMB and USM perform well with the conference having more parity. Still don't think we'll see 2 teams making the NCAA tournament for a bit, but I'd expect some surprises in the standings and playoffs.

Very mixed bag of a weekend for teams to kick off the LEC's inaugural season.

In the 'top 3' - Babson comes away with a weekend sweep of Fitchburg, with the teams playing in honor of Jake Thibeault. Plymouth and Norwich dropped opening weekend matches, with Plymouth getting battered by UNE and Plattsburgh, and Norwich by Curry.

New Hampshire neighbors Keene and NEC come away with wins, with Keene going 2-0 against D2 programs, and NEC beating Rivier.

West Conn forces an OT in their first ever game, but loses to Albertus to start off their first ever season (before getting crushed by Post the next day).

Still the start of the season, but unless anything drastic changes I'd say this weekend confirms no at-large berth for the LEC.

Lots of hockey left...but concur. Nothing happened on the opening weekend to inspire any confidence that the LEC will be a better conference this year than SUNYAC, UCHC and CNE.

I did catch the Plymouth-Plattsburgh game on TV. What a terrible strategy and coaching by Plymouth. Giving up two shorties. Players look like they run that team, and are selfish. Plattsburgh, not overtly talent rich, played well as a unit, could surprise this year. Babson still can’t figure out if they are the team to beat or not. It’s early, but going to be a fun ride.

Didn't manage to catch the game, but looks like we're in for another long season. From the recap, seems like special teams completely fell apart against Plattsburgh and goaltending across both games just isn't there. Lot of seniors have graduated the last few years and the turnover in leadership isn't helping. Hoping this weekend was a reality check but they need to seriously take a step back and reassess. Only positive takeaway is that some of these freshmen are having some impact on the ice already, so hopefully that translates into something.

Babson looks decent, but still early and it's not like Fitchburg is a strong team most years. Schedule is pretty light until around Thanksgiving so we'll see how they do against some NESCAC teams. We'll also probably get a better idea of how Norwich is vs Plymouth this weekend.

Now through week 2 of the LEC's inaugural season. The first in-conference games are done and I'd say we're starting to get an idea of how teams are stacking up.

Babson starts the season 4-0 with a couple of away wins vs Keene and West Conn. Norwich picks up two big early season wins against Plymouth and NEC at home. Plymouth recovers with a comeback win vs Castleton for their first win of the season on Sunday.

USM is seeing some early success, securing wins against West Conn and Keene. The two UMass schools split against some local MASCAC opponents

Towards the bottom, NEC starts LEC action with no luck (1-2 , 0-2 LEC) and West Conn is still searching for their first win as a program.

This upcoming weekend we're getting a throwback to last year with some pre-LEC conference matchups. Headline game sees former NEHC foes and heavyweights facing off with Norwich at Babson. Down the schedule we see UMD at Plymouth for a former MASCAC matchup, and UMB at NEC and Castleton at USM for some more NEHC reunions.

Babson host Norwich - Big early season game. Saw one game for Norwich and they are well schooled and disciplined. Norwich plays as one unit and must give 100% to beat them. They are gettable, but, don't take plays off or they won't be..... Babson also plays a similar style, so this one will be close. Umass Boston vs NEC is going to be a good game to watch. Think this one will not be close, the outcome will be, can NEC overpower Umass, if so, they will walk them, If Umass doesn't fall into the "retaliation" trap, then, Umass will cruise against NEC. i also think that Southern Maine will get clipped by Castleton.

Babson vs Norwich I'd say is biggest matchup of the first half. Should be a big indicator for Babson as their first tough opponent this year. Norwich is quickly getting up to speed after last weekend's wins - so will be another good test travelling between Mass and Maine.

Excited to see Plymouth play its first LEC home game vs UMD. Hopefully last week's Vermont trip lit the fire for the team. That and not competing with students having 'safe' and 'responsible' nights out for halloween.

Babson edges out Norwich in a big 4-3 W. Huge test and win for the Beavers at home, but see them splitting once Norwich has home ice. UMB with a big shutout win on the road against NEC to begin conference play. USM continues their strong offensive showing to start the season, beating Castleton 6-4. Plymouth rounds out with a massive 7-1 W against UMD to open LEC hockey at Hanaway Rink.

5 more games today to cap the weekend off. My 2 picks to watch are Norwich at USM and UMB at Plymouth (totally not biased with this one). USM will be a good benchmark to see if Norwich can keep up the momentum in the LEC - will end off a long weekend trip for the Cadets and should be a battle of offenses with USM looking to surprise. Plymouth will be looking to get a weekend sweep of the 'UMass' schools as the Panthers host their Salute the Troops games. Plymouth is starting to build some form so UMB will also be a benchmark match to see if the Panthers can perform against former NEHC teams.

Week 3 is now done. Some more big matchups to help start off the season.

Babson continues their undefeated start, going 6-0 after two close home matches against Norwich and Castleton. Norwich recovers on their second game of the weekend, ending a long away trip with a close win at USM. Plymouth also pulls out two wins at home, beating UMD and UMB after a rocky start to the season.

Keene pulls off two wins, and gets on the board for the LEC after a narrow win vs West Conn.

NEC goes opposite against the UMass' schools, dropping both home matchups and going winless in LEC action. West Conn stays winless overall, losing to Keene after leading early.

Heading into the weekend before Thanksgiving, we see some more LEC matchups before shifting to some OOC games to round out the fall. Keene makes their first trip to Plymouth to kick off a renewed in-state rivalry. Saturday, USM is at Babson and Norwich is at UMB for some notable former NEHC matchups, while Keene makes the short trip to neighboring NEC.

Weekend thoughts: Babson beats Norwich. Good game, thought Norwich ran out of gas and got a little sloppy. Plymouth takes care of Umass Dartmouth and Umass Boston. Dartmouth got behind and called it a day. Umass Boston got hosed by the home cooking refs. They are a well coached team and should have won. Plymouth is loaded with talent and selfish undisciplined players, not a good combo. If they continue to play pond hockey, going to be a disappointed fan base at Hanaway. Does anyone believe in USM as a contender? They beat the bad teams but can't see them beating Babson, Plymouth or Norwich. See them finishing fifth place at the end. Norwich good weekend, even though they got beat by Babson. They won the trap game vs USM. Team has a lot of heart and hustle. You have to earn the win vs the Cadets. NEC is the disappointment, a little less beer and a little more practice and pride. Haven't had a chance to see West Conn, Keene or Castleton.

Babson's looking like the team to beat in the first half, just we'll have to see once they play some NESCAC opponents around Thanksgiving.

For Plymouth, think we finally returned to form a bit vs UMD, only to lose a bit of steam against Boston. Biggest issues I noticed are (1) they keep hesitating with possession and (2) they're struggling to complete passes which keeps leading to turnovers. Noticed some of the first year players are being cycled into the 1st and 2nd lines which seems like a change up from prior years. Wouldn't have been surprised by a tie and wouldn't say we've ever had the refs on our side. Hopefully they can keep building against Keene and West Conn before a visit to Trinity.
