2024-25: D3whky

To imply that Bobrowski "stole" Beaubien is a bit much. Houle clearly didn't feel confident using her during her senior year after her meltdown after giving up the first goal in the semifinal against GAC at the end of her junior year, and she by all reports wanted to move on from a negative situation for her if she was going to use her 5th year.

Plattsburgh only having two goalies last season was a function of a 2nd freshmen goalie who was set to come in decommitting after getting into Purdue's engineering program which is very highly regarded.

....so did he land the recruit or not? To imply he almost ruined the program that finished national runner up 6 months later might be the worst take on this board I've ever seen! That poster should just worry about another mediocre year in Minneapolis.

That last part I agree with you on, I just disagree with the notion Beaubien was "stolen" as opposed to she wanted to go, entered the portal and Bobrowski recruited her like any other player in the portal.

Most of the problems I heard about JB at Elmira was in how he treated the players he didn't want around. Then there were a couple of players who he didn't intend to push out who decided to leave because they didn't like how he went about it. But I do think you're right that the implication of him ruining the program is hyperbolic. But I also don't know we can give him 100% credit as some players are recruited as juniors so we don't know which of the freshmen were Bobrowski's vs Crowley's.

I think the grade will always be an Incomplete for his tenure at Elmira.

I suppose I meant stolen more as it was a steal out of the portal that turned into Jordan Binnington at the right time last season, then stole her off their roster.

Fair enough on the rest. Roster turnover with a new coach isn't really that unheard of, but I suppose it is case by case, player by player and how it makes them feel.

So with what appeared to be a very quiet offseason coaching change-wise, the bullets are flying here in mid-August. There have been a total of 7 coaching changes this offseason.

Filled:
Rivier- Marykate Drinkwater
UW-Superior: Bre Simon
Aurora: Mandy Montgomery
Northland: Jake Bobrowski

Vacant:
Augsburg
Lake Forest
Utica

I realize it's a coincidence but 3 of the 4 coaches in the Filled section coached at Elmira at some point...the tentacles of that program are long

I thought the Augsburg announcement came out before that post. Maybe not.
The post was made about an hour before Auggie officially made the announcement, although word had already leaked out. Pretty sure that was the job they were referring to. Haven't heard any other rumblings in the MIAC...

Thanks for the clarification. Maybe it's that I saw the Augsburg announcement before I saw that post from 123kidd. Either way I appreciate your response. Btw, fantastic name! I wonder how many people on here know who Dit Clapper was?!

Just a few of us old-timers know who Dit Clapper was, I would presume.

Certainly long....but also a lot of turnover lately there too as part of it in the head and assistant roles.

It's Northland; Jokebrowski will never turn that program around. Nobody can do that. It's just a coaching job until a better one comes along. If he had stayed at Elmira more than one season he would have caused irreparable damage to that program. He was already on his way toward doing that in only one season especially in the post-season! It was a good thing for that team he left when he did.

Love the Joke.. a minor prediction... His daughter currently at Bemidji, will apply at Augs, if hired, will hire her Dad as an asst!

Most likely, Sarah does not have enough experience for the long time Augsburg AD to hire her. I would anticipate they move the process along very quickly with hopes of a hire by Labor Day.

Augsburg should buy themselves time by letting Elizabeth Bauer act as the interim and get a larger pool of applicants in Spring 2025.

Also there have been DIII HC hires with thinner resumes than Sarah Bobrowski so I wouldn't rule her out entirely.

I could easily see Jokebrowski bailing on Northland for either the Augsburg or Lake Forest jobs. He's a total opportunist after all. He could then bring in his daughter as his assistant instead of the other way around. You heard it here first. : )

Could Darwitz resurface at Auggie with Joko?

Plattsburgh and St. Michael's have canceled theit exhibition game, which has been fairly regular over the years. Haven't heard if its a schedule conflict or something deeper. Trinity is coming to town for the exhibition instead and I think its an upgrade...

No word on who the new assistant is, rumor is that Blanch not wanting to coach anymore may have truth to it. I've heard whispers of names but nothing concrete...

The criteria the DIII WIH have chosen for their NPI, the replacement for PWR, have dropped.

Criteria:

Win%/SOS: 25/75
H/A Win/Loss: 1.1/0.9
QWB: 53
QWB Multiplier: .500
Overtime: .67/.33(Regular Season)/100/0 (Postseason)
Minimum Wins: 9

Rationale:

• Winning Percentage/Strength of Schedule. The committee utilized the past three years of data to understand the right combination of winning percentage and strength of schedule. The committee wanted to ensure that a high winning percentage was balanced with an appropriate strength of schedule. The committee landed on 25/75 using this information.

• Home/Away – Win/Loss Weights. The committee discussed the home advantage within the sport. The committee noted that the previous PairWise selection criteria using a 1.2/.8 ratio was derived from Division I philosophy and realized that it was not the best selection moving forward and opted to change the balance to still credit a road win, but not having it have as high as an impact on the overall NPI number.

• Quality Win Base (QWB.) The committee relied heavily on the past three year’s data for this information to ensure the average QWB was appropriate. The committee wanted to ensure the quality win base number was not too low or too high so that it could reward teams appropriately based off an important win. The committee also wanted to ensure the QWB was spread out far enough that a win over an institution around the QWB line had a smaller impact, while beating someone near the top had a much larger impact to reward that win.

• Quality Win Base Multiplier. The committee felt as if .5 provided the appropriate range of rewarding a quality win based off the QWB that was decided. The .5 multiplier gives appropriate reward for a quality win within the context of a team’s overall resume. The committee was cognizant of wanting to reward a quality win, but not so much that a single result overwhelms the institution’s overall postseason resume.

• Overtime Weight. The committee decided that they wanted to remain consistent with the past criteria philosophy to not fully credit an overtime win or fully discredit an overtime loss in the regular season, noting that reducing the amount of players on the ice does not reflect the same game being played the prior three periods. The committee noted that when 5 v 5 overtime is utilized during the postseason, it wanted to fully reward a team for a win like past practice. The committee noted that shootout results will not be factored in the NPI, and that if the game is still tied after overtime, the result is treated as a tie when factored into the NPI.

• Minimum Wins. . The committee noted that 9 wins would be the right number of wins to evaluate an institution’s season. The committee felt that evaluating a team’s 9 best wins was the best way to balance the philosophy that wins should not hurt your NPI while also understanding a critical mass of games is needed to evaluate team’s overall best games for seeding purposes.
