2023-24 Penn State Nittany Lions

And in a 1-0 game I think the concerns about scoring go both ways. At least 3 times Janecke fed a puck to where she thought there would be a player and there was no one there, misread by one of the 2 players. Scary defensively if your opponent snags that puck and gets going the other way.

Penn State speed really was the difference. Hoping the Lakers get over the hump next year. Unreal showing by Nystom, Ste Croix was making a push too.

Janecke has been working on being a playmaker all year. Pederson had to have been a big loss. I still think Sisti is a very good coach. And let me tell you after watching what has happened at Syracuse after Flanagan retired, I would not be in a hurry to see what's behind door b.

Yep, and Janecke looked amazing out there… just something I noticed. Pretty cool to see the growth from 1 year to the next and I hope she’s on the worlds team next month.

No question on Sisti. I think Flanagan had a great comment years ago re Mercyhurst teams, he said they always play motivated to win. Absolutely true. Everyone was singing the praises of St Cloud all year rightly so, and who was one of their few losses to? The Hurst. Lakers get beat up early because they play some really good ECAC
Schools, but it’s a great schedule nonetheless and we’ll see what next year brings.

I saw that quite a bit this season, too, and I just took it as Janecke being that little bit extra in quickness and vision. She said herself that this year she's tried to focus on setting up plays more than being the goal scorer, and it shows in her goals vs assists compared to last season. She actually scored more points being the playmaker. And now she's been invited to the U.S. Women's National team camp for the upcoming IIHF Worlds: https://gopsusports.com/news/2024/3...-us-womens-national-team-evaluation-camp.aspx

Janecke's play has really bumped up the play from fellow sophomore Katelyn Roberts, and freshman Stella Retrum got a gift being put on a line with Janecke to learn from.

Mercyhurst and Penn State is a great rivalry. Mercyhurst is always formidable.

It took a lot of years, but I love that Penn State and Mercyhurst are finally in a place where they are equally competitive, and it always makes for some great hockey when the two of them face off.

How do you guys like having to travel all the way to Wisconsin instead of Columbus?

I'm sure the team doesn't care at all where they play, but fans obviously would prefer Columbus. This is only Penn State's second trip ever to the national tournament, though, so they don't have the experienced die-hard fanbase of the usual WCHA teams that are always on top and make it to the tournament every year.

The travel will be harder for your fans for sure!
I'm told the reason you didn't get seeded in Columbus is Penn State complained loudly to the NCAA about our rink so the NCAA accommodated Penn State as the reseeding to Wisconsin's bracket didn't upset the balance they tried to achieve.

I don't know...Madison is a whole hour's drive from Orangeville (bahahaha)!

The 2022 U-19 championships were held in Madison, and I bet there were 30 or 40 "team Janecke" members in the crowd - with my ticket pretty much right in the middle of them. I kept asking where I was supposed to go to pick up my t-shirt.

There was no "reseeding" of Penn State. #7 St Lawrence playing #10 Penn State at #2 Wisconsin is exactly what the Pairwise would say the bracket should be.

Sorry, but it's not speculation on my part. I have very solid information to back up my claim. Penn State would have been in Columbus if not for their complaints.

No it isn't "speculation" It's math.

The numbers are the numbers. Wisconsin is the #2, St Lawrence is the #7, and Penn State is the #10 of the teams that qualified. This is not "debatable". The bracket is exactly what the Pairwise would indicate, and there was no "reseeding" from that.

What exactly was the complaint about your rink?

All I was told it was about our facilities being sh*tty.
Our visitors locker room is in the rinks basement and they and have to climb up a narrow stairwell to the ice and the restrooms are no picnic either for the visiting team.

Did Penn State get the downstairs dressing room? QU was higher seeded so Penn State may have had to travel through the field house and breeze way. How many OTs did that game go to? I would definitely complain if my team had to go for a hike between periods. I honestly think OSU is at risk of being told they need to host in a different rink at some point. Or at least have the first round game somewhere else.

Sorry but it was as inside information as you can get, but the source is confidential. If you don't want to believe it that's your business. I know what I know.

I think Lindsay is right and Penn State had the locker room that was across the field house. They mentioned the long trek back and forth in the press conference after the triple-OT game with Quinnipiac.

Holy moly. That game went to 3OT. Definitive answer that yes the rink has the potential to impact the play of the game if you have a team walking from the far side of the field house. Even the wasted minutes not getting to rest or debrief because you’re on an Ohio State walking tour.
