Thanks, but I’m hundreds of miles away from it.Good luck to our northern friends.
There’s a strong likelihood that Merbok was able to form where it did because of the warming ocean.
With warm ocean water, there’s more evaporation going in the atmosphere. Because all the atmospheric ingredients came together, Merbok was able to bring that very warm moist air along with it. Had the ocean been a temperature more typical of 1960, there wouldn’t have been as much moisture in the storm.
You get an amen from here in Indialantic (beach town off of Melbourne)! Took a turn toward the worse for us overnight, but still just looking like 5-6 inches of rain over a couple of days and 30 mph winds. Not much by FL standards - only issue is that we didn't have a hurricane last year, so there may be more dead/unhealthy trees around and 30 mph may be enough to knock out some power lines.Looks like hurricane Ian will be visiting my area later this week. Although, depending on track we may see reduced impact.
The farther west it stays, the better!
Water is already over the sea wall in Key West. Storm surge here will peak at 2-4 feet. Highest wind gusts could range 60-70mph tonight.
155 mph now.
sanibel and captiva gonna get whacked
