2021 Frozen Four: UMD, UMASS, SCSU & MSUM.

Dud of a game from St. Cloud. Way too loose.

So far, I'd lean toward them not using the mistakes to their advantage, whereas UMass is, very much so. That great goal was stared by a horrible pass by St Cloud. The Huskies can't seem to get a shot on net when they are getting easy turn overs like that.

Yeah. I thought SCSU played well early on. That second goal just zapped them of everything. Barring a miracle, Massachusetts will have earned the DQ Cup.

On top of them playing well, UMass was a little to sleepy/relaxed/sloppy. SCSU has not been able to do a single thing with any advantage. The closest they have gotten was that cross bar early in the game.

Crazy.

Utterly embarrassing

Sorry First Time, Long Time. I was hoping the Huskies could keep the title in the NCHC. That was probably the worst period I've seen SCSU play this year, and Massachusetts is just doing a great job of capitalizing on the Huskies' mistakes. Disappointing, but you guys will have more opportunities (and will win titles) in the future.

Kudos to Massachusetts. Very deserving champions.

UMass winning a national title should show any program that if you hire the right coach the sky is the limit. Eric Lang at AIC also comes to mind.

Interesting that there are some real snoozers spattered among the close games in the final. Like Union over Minny 7-4, or BC 5-0 over Wisco, or ND over QU 5-1. This happens every once in a while.

There you go. SCSU can't bury chances they get like that. Even when they get the puck in the slot- nothing.

Yep. UMASS taking advantage of mistakes/opportunities, SCSU unable to capitalize.

It reminds me a bit of the North Dakota - Boston College Semifinal in 2008...to the extent that game actually happened, and it was not just a personal nightmare.

Overall, though, college hockey has had some great title games. By the way, I wouldn't call Union-Minn a snoozer. That was a 5-4 game with three minutes left, and Gostisbehere had to dive to break up a 2-on-1 that could have tied it.

Interesting statistic...and maybe a little dose of hope for the teams that missed out this season:

Of the 73 National Champions in our Sport:
- 21 (~29%) played for the National Championship in the previous NCAA Tournament (including the last 3)
- 32 (~44%) played in the Frozen Four in the previous NCAA Tournament (including the last 5)
- 45 (~62%) played in the previous NCAA Tournament (including the last 7)

Congrats to UMass. Very deserved victory. Made us pay for every mistake and there were too many of them.

As soon as we hit the pipe in the first minute or so I had a bad feeling.

Again, congrats on the title!

It kinda bugged me that Barry Melrose and the other commentators kept saying that UMass was playing without their starting goalie due to Covid protocols. Lindberg and Murray have been 1A and 1B for the last 3 years. Lindberg played ONE game more than Murray before yesterday.

Lindberg’s numbers are better this season, but I’d go with Murray tomorrow - he won last night’s game. It’s Lindberg’s team next season.

Just randomly came to this thread and this was the post I was on — Lindberg must’ve read it too!;) ;)
