2021-22 Penn State Nittany Lions

Finally, Penn State announces the video streaming package (BTN+) for the 2021-22 season:

thats good Zed. From what I can see Lindenwood and RIT are using stretch. Can’t figure out what Hurst is doing. I assume Stretch but the games aren’t listed on there yet . Hopefully they publicize it soon. And yes I will keep hoping for the Hurst only ESPN+ option. :-)

Cuse usually does their own free broadcasts.

I wonder how much a school can make on streaming the games, because I'm sure schools will want to make up for the money losses from last season without fans at arenas. I'm sure that's what is behind Penn State's new "pay to park" policy.

Not hockey related, but Penn State related - tonight is Penn State football's annual "whiteout" game at 7:30, and apparently small town State College was already packed and crazy last night. If they draw the usual crowd for a whiteout, that's 110,000 people in Beaver Stadium, making it the fourth most-populous place in the state, behind only Philly, Pittsburgh, and just behind Allentown. It's always a surreal thing bringing that many people into a town of 42,000. ESPN is set up on the lawn of Old Main for all the pregame hype stuff, too, doing the ESPN College Gameday show.

I'm about 15 minutes away...I think I'll stay where I'm at.:D:)

Assuming you were pleased by the result, congratulations! The effort by your fanbase was amazing; it made for great TV. And it was a pleasure to root for Penn State for a change! Often we're the bad guys at the Whiteout.

I do understand that having your campus totally taken over by one event is a mixed blessing. Here in Columbus, authorities have estimated that if you count all of the tailgaters, sports bar patrons & restaurant viewers, as many as 200,000 fans descend on the OSU campus area during Football Home Games. Granted, that very high number comes from pre-pandemic times.

Whatever the real number, it certainly complicates things for other events. Like, say, Women's Hockey. We're actually competing with Football Game Days THREE times this season -- including next Saturday.

It was kind of strange not having Ohio State or Michigan for the whiteout game, but I don't think Penn State would've beaten either of them. If this game had been at Auburn, I think Auburn would've won it. Still, it ended up going down to the last play of the game, and that makes for a fun time for fans. I'm not a big fan of football - I shared an elevator ride downtown with Joe Paterno years ago, when I was a mailman in State College, and that's about the extent of my football experience.

I haven't even looked at the football schedule, but if women's hockey plays on a football (or basketball) game day, I feel sorry for any fans driving to Pegula...pack a lunch!

The Penn State women's hockey season starts tomorrow night - man, it feels good to say that! This offseason has felt like it took three offseasons to get through. According to the Penn State women's hockey Twitter, they're going to hang a banner for last season's CHA regular season title...that's the first one in the rafters for the women. Here's the BTN+ link for the livestream, with game time at 7:00 (Eastern):

After the first period, St. Lawrence is up on Penn State 1-0. Penn State only managed 7 shots on goal to St. Lawrence's 2. It was probably the kind of first period of a season to be expected. The top line had some chances, but overall nothing really clicked, so we'll see if they settle down. Penn State will start the second period with 1:58 of powerplay, but the powerplay in the first showed pretty much nada. Nothing to complain about...just looked like jittery "first period of the season" hockey.

At the end of two, it's still St. Lawrence up 1-0. Penn State had more chances that period but it's still not very cohesive, so it was kind of just more of the same that period. Shots on goal are 15-7 for Penn State. I think Kiara Zanon is trying too hard to be a little too fancy, rather than making a play, and even the announcers mentioned that she's trying to do too much by herself. It's game one, and still a period to go, so we'll see how they come out for the third.

And that's a wrap - St. Lawrence beats Penn State 1-0. Shots on goal were 22-17 for Penn State. There was just nothing doing for Penn State all game, no chemistry, no cohesiveness. I know you don't get anything from the first game of the season, but I hope that's the worst they look all year. I really, really miss Jessica Adolfsson on defense.

Here are links for tonight's 7:00 game #2 against St. Lawrence. Don't forget your parking pass if you're coming to the game, and remember that the Pegula Ice Arena lot is actually called the Shields lot.
