Opening of the season last night with this game between preseason ranked #2 Andover vs #5 ranked Benilde-St. Margaret taking top billing. Recruits for St. Thomas (Boerger and Brown from Andover, Zavoral from BSM) and Ohio State (Peschel from BSM). Also for Lindwood (Hoen from BSM) and for Merrimack (Melsness from BSM).

Andover wins 3-2 and for those of you who would like to see what the competition level is like, here is a link to video of the game. Not the best camera work but still better production than what the Yuckeyes put out.

Couple of interesting matchups tonight for recruit watching. Hill Murray at Edina or Lakeville South at Rosemount. I'm leaning toward going to the Rosemount vs Lakeville South matchup. Rosemount is undefeated so far this year and would like to get a look at Whitney Tuttle (Mankato recruit) for Rosemount as well as Enright for LS.
 
The duo of Enright (now Sinner's recruit) and Otremba (Mankato recruit) have been too much for Rosemount so far. Lakeville South up 2-0 late in the first period with both players getting a goal.
 
Much better 2nd period for Rosemount as they have tied it at 2-2 with about half the 2nd period remaining...

Also see from twitter that Edina now leads Hill Murray 3-1 after 2 periods.

Rosemount had taken a 3-2 lead in the 3rd period but the dynamic duo of Enright and Otremba, each with goals puts Lakeville South up 4-3 late in the 3rd period...

Just see an update via the Edina Hornets twiiter feed that Edina has defeated Hill Murray 3-1...

And just as I'm typing Otremba scores to make it 5-3...

And it's final Lakeville South 5-3 over previously unbeaten Rosemount. Lakeville's top line was just too much for Rosemount to overcome.

Moorehead gave up a shortie at the end of the 1st period. Players lallygagging, waiting for the period to end, and quick goal from Minnetonka. How do you teach 100% effort throughout each period? Maybe that was a coachable moment.
 
There have been some terrific section playoff hockey games already. Two were overtime games last night. Gentry Academy over Hill Murray 4-3 and Northfield over Lakeville South 2-1.

Tonight has 3 AA section finals.

6AA Edina vs Benilde-St. Margaret's 7PM - D1 recruits galore in this game.
5AA Maple Grove vs Centennial/Spring Lake Park 7PM - Some D1 recruits (1 Gopher recruit on C/SLP)
2AA Minnetonka vs Holy Family 7PM - 4 gopher recruits (3 on Minnetonka and 1 on Holy Family) and other D1 recruits as well.

I'll look into some streaming options and post links to those as I get a chance today. Likely the Edina/BSM will have free streaming and also hoping the Minnetonka/HF matchup does as well.

Not just Gopher recruits!

BSM with Ohio State, St Thomas, Lindenwood and Merrimack;
Edina with Wisconsin, St Thomas and Princeton x2;
Holy Family with Gopher, Dartmouth (x2), St Michaels, st anselm, BU, Brown, st Thomas, UNH;
Tonka with sacred heart, gopher x3, umd; Centennial with gopher;
maple grove with Penn state.

Recruits to Ohio state, Wisconsin, Mankato, umd, dartmouth, yale and more already eliminated. Lots of fantastic hockey still to be played (and watched).
