Popularity doesn't correlate to elections. Anti-Immigration helped sweep Trump into office yet DACA is at 80% approval. The 2nd Amendment helped sweep Trump into office yet background checks are at 80% approval.

Why does this happen?

Because Democrats need to fall in love. That's why. Good luck finding another Obama.

You're also cherrypicking one single election involving a woman who probably would've lost to Roy Moore and ignoring some of the more recent ones where dems basically did the bare minimum and won.

Same response. Good luck finding another Obama. Since 1970 we've had 3 Democratic Presidents.

Jimmy Carter - Won because of Watergate and because he was southern.
Bill Clinton - Won because he may be the greatest politician of all time and had perhaps the highest Charisma score of any President. Also he would have lost if not for the squeaky short guy, Perot.
Barack Obama - Won because of GW Bush's complete destruction of our economy and pointless War. Also, had a very high Charisma score.

That's in 48 years of United States History.

I'm not sure how the tax cut could have gotten more unpopular than it already is. I would have run a more viscous campaign myself pointing out that most Republican officeholders are either perverts themselves or enablers of pervs, starting with Paul Ryan's mentor child molesting monster Dennis Hastert - A man who still has rule named after him even AFTER getting busted paying off his victims to keep quiet. :rolleyes: Then as more and more of them get exposed, more in the last week (Greitens - MO Gov doing bondage with his mistress then blackmailing her to keep quiet, Murphy in PA paying off an intern he was harassing, Trump paying off porn star) it just reinforces the narrative. Same thing happened in 2006 when like a dozen Goopers went down either on corruption charges, mistress choking, bigamy, or extortion.

And again we probably shouldn't compare the more recent generations to our parents' generation which was colossally stupid, shortsighted, and grew up during a time of unprecedented growth for the most part and just make the same assumptions.

The most recent Presidential election elected the worst President ever elected in United States History. And did it on purpose. You can blame Clinton. She deserves a lot of it. But, don't completely dismiss the electorate's culpability.

Fair enough, I'll admit to arguing with friends and family members who either supported Gary Johnson or even Trump himself (that previously voted for Obama) trying to convince them to vote for the lesser of two evils and it was like pulling teeth.

The Dems campaign as if they're afraid someone might get angry - the electorate who frankly should be angry, or the Republicans, who presumably will try harder to win if they get mad, so we don't want that.
Bernie campaigns like a viable candidate (post "Greatest Generation") should; such a liberal would be unstoppable.

This is correct. We need Bernie's ideas and Liz' relentlessness in some cute white guy with good hair.

Is it that Oprah couldn't beat Trump? She has the same experience as him when he ran and today is much more popular. I'm not so sure another Kerry, of which we have quite a few, could beat Trump.

Is it that having another 4 years of Trump isn't so bad?

I'm the rare voter who doesn't vote with his gut, and considers charisma a mere nice-to-have (so I probably shouldn't be in charge of the party ;)). I care about positions on the issues first, then experience, then temperament. Whether or not I'd like to have dinner with them is a distant fourth.

Would Oprah be better than Trump? Probably. However, she's wholly unqualified to be POTUS, and after Dump I'd like to see us get away from that.
